    My Irish wife is firmly opposed to this.
    I get hate the Brits for many reasons but the hate for the French is almost a running joke for her family.

    Maybe they still hold a grudge from the 2010 qualifiers. Ireland was literally minutes away from qualifying for the 2010 World Cup but were screwed by the referee missing a blatant handball by the French.
