What will it take to make you seriously consider an EV?

    1. No, I'm saying if it does require one (there have been a ton of Tesla needing battery repair/replace) the car will be mechanically totaled.

    2. The resale value of a car is important to the new car buyer. It even changes lease rates. So it is false to say the new car purchaser/leaser doesn't care. The reliability of a used car and cost of repair is what drives resale. Toyota excels (or is thought to excel) in both of these and thus have very high resale value Try to buy a toyota for less than sticker right now lol. I think your analogy of a bad carfax, flooded or mechanically failing used car is great. Everyone buying a used EV should probably realize that what they are getting themselves into is a car that IF it fails, will be insanely expensive to fix.

The segment is so young there are also other pitfalls. with the Mach E being abandoned, how rare will those parts be? Ford sold almost none of them and even if they keep the parts in stock the prices WILL rise on the parts. Do you want your windows and mirrors to work? Good luck finding parts in 2034

For me there are great deals on EVs to be had. I seriously want a Benz EQs or a Audi A8 e-Tron. Getting a $170K luxury sedan for 55K with 2 years of use would be great value. The problem is after 7-8 years the car would be impossible to get rid of and if anything broke on it your risk capacity would have to be much higher than a typical $55K car buyer.

Isn't that same logic if a car needs to new transmission or engine? One difference is an EV is much less likely to have an engine failure but more likely to have a battery failure. Is the risk about equal? Dunno.

Is it? You are making another assumption here. I'm confident that resale value isn't even a top 5 decision making factor for a vast portion of buyers. Some yes, but not anywhere close to all buyers.

This statement is true about any car. It is even true about buying houses, for that matter. Some things are expensive to fix. The only difference is maybe it isn't common knowledge, yet, that replacing an EV battery is expensive so perhaps people should do a diagnostic test on the EV before buying ...just like any other car.

What exactly is a ton? There was a significant amount of failures in early EV adoption but that should be expected.

Power train failures in both EVs and ICE have similar numbers. In both instances, a significant number is due to mistreatment or a subset of poor manufacturing quality.
Sticking with high quality manufactures like Tesla/Rivian and Toyota/Honda reduces these numbers significantly.

New Cybertruck recall. Seems the wheels might fall off some newer models.

I test drove a Porsche Taycan 2023 yesterday and it didn't seem like an amazing upgrade compared to my fully paid of Tesla Model 3 2020. Definitely superior build quality and materials. The interior does look cooler but it didn't seem more usable than the simple tablet in my Model 3. It's definitely faster but I drive pretty conservatively. Biggest area I didn't like is that the car was longer and the visibility was worse than my car. Overall I don't think it's worth the upgrade for me.

True story - the man who came up with "copy", "paste", "cut" on a computer is Larry Tesler. He once took Steve Jobs and his crew on a tour around Xerox PARC and let them check out the Xerox Alto computer. Steve saw all the GUIs, games, ethernet/networking, etc. being run on it and asked why in the hell they didn't sell this stuff and make money. The rest is history.

Also note... despite the car in the pic reading "Tesler", I don't believe that it's Larry Tesler. Just a hunch.

Could be his b*stard grandson, we'll never know...I feel that kind of ingenuity would run in the blood for generations.

This is what happens when companies rollout new product prematurely. As google forces out more product, people are increasing becoming disenchanted with it.

i dont know what more advanced means in this context. Point is Tesla is not recklessly in aggressive expansion.
