My wish for the off-season is that Reed spends the summer working on the handle and getting by his defender, and Amen keeps working on the shot.

Reed is working with his mom & dad @RB713
Ameiz will be working with the fake “guard whisperer”
Tari will be working with “lethal shooter”
Katie will be at the local high school/university, getting in pick up runs
Fred, and Fred only, will be boxing with Coach Udoka
Sengun will be in the Balenciaga lab

The both need a lot of work:

    Thompson:
    • dribble pullup jumper. we saw him use this move last year and he worked on it all last summer. hopefully he continues to work on it and get more comfortable with it over the next several months.
    • post up. Needs to get with hakeem. post up opens up passing game to cutters. he can also drive or step back jumper from there
    • FT's
    • 3 3 3 ball
    Sheppard:
    • Learn to make contact with defenders on the drive
    • Gain more muscle
    • master FT line dribble pullup ala CP3
    • learn to decelerate on the drive
    • FT's
    • defense defense defense

They'd all be better if they just played actual basketball from dawn til dusk every day and avoided the "gurus" who generally don't seem to achieve a damn thing other than charging a high fee. See: Green, Jalen, for reference.

Teaching is one thing. How a player applies the teachings is another. Not much different than in academics. Green did improve in terms of strength, deceleration, and control. The shot selection, focus, and discipline is on the player.

All three players made a lot of progress this year.

    Smith
-develop a basic drive to the hoop. It does seem to be coming along. practice passing out of it even if it’s just one or two simple reads.
-gain enough weight to play more stretch five

    Shepp
    -Handle
-ability to absorb contact and draw a few free throws
-defensive fundamentals to stay in front of his man.

    Amen
    -Corner three
-Hit zone three, somewhere else than the corner where he is relatively proficient. There has to be a sweet spot.
    -Mid range and zone execution

I've never seen a player go from where Amen started to be a reliable enough shooter to be a #1 or #2 scoring option for a contender. I've also never seen a player go from where Reed started to be a reliable primary playmaker for a contender.

I think it's best for the team that they work on their game enough to be reliable in clutch situations at their core strengths while the team keeps looking for their top guy in the draft.

Reed could work on his handles, but the main thing is adding muscle - 5lbs at least, but 10lbs would be better. He really hit the rookie wall (because he was functionally a rookie after Ime redshirted him).

I don't see much hope for Amen. A reasonable expectation would be him getting back to the 27.5% he shot from 3 last year. He has a very shallow bag - just that fade away in the paint, then everything else is at the rim. It's fascinating to me that he and Ausar are basically the same player, yet he gets 15 more minutes each game. What you see is what you get with these guys, so I have no idea what the Rockets are looking at.

I hope it's just Michael Jordan. They need someone to bust their balls.

Amen bout to spend another offseason with Chris Brickley swishing everything in the gym and then bricking everything in a NBA arena

Such a shame the NBA is played with other players on the court and not just 5'6 dudes waving paddles around. Jalen Green and Amen Thompson could be actual superstars!

Probably just meeting with their agents trying to find a way out of Houston to get on a team with a real coach.
