Apologies. I missed your post on the first exchange. I still work a little and so I go back and forth on the board.

Actually, the fundamental theme of both movies is the isolation of convicted felons. Are you saying that enclosing people in an 8 x 10 cell for extended periods is humane?

Felons are inherently cruel, barbarous and lawless. Putting all the rotten eggs in one basket is cruel in one sense but humane in another. Given the choice of freedom to do what I want when I want versus the confined regimen of cell life, I choose the open air every time. There are dangers in either environment, but those dangers should serve as a serious deterrent.

You don't have kids do you?

Also, ever heard of airline pilots, dentists, journalists, archivists, nurses, engineers, architects, librarians, doctors, university faculty, air traffic controllers, or writers?

They all have unions... in the case of some, like engineers, several. There's also a union for your favorite weekend contract worker: exotic dancers.

When these dinosaurs learn to fly, I'll rethink my position. If they can build a raft to sail a thousand miles without being frozen or flipped over by wild arctic winds, I'll rethink my position. And, if one or more are smart enough and motivated enough to beat the unreal natural odds and Coast Guard infrared, then they deserve to be free.

The Coast Guard blows them out of the water, hopefully stranding the would-be rescuers.

This isn't necessarily true. Lawless, yes. But not all felons are cruel and barbarous.
