Oklahoma safety Roy Williams, who in 2001 captured the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back and the Bronko Nagurski Award as the best defensive player overall, will bypass his final season of eligibility to enter the NFL draft, ESPN.com has learned. Williams, 21, is expected to announce his decision as early as Wednesday afternoon. A punishing tackler with great size (6 feet, 221 pounds) and range, Williams is projected as a first-round choice. In a draft that appears deep at the position, he will rank among the top three safeties, at worst. The versatile Williams, who often played close to the line of scrimmage for the Sooners, totaled 101 tackles in 2001, including 10 for losses. He also had five interceptions, 27 passes defensed, two sacks and three fumble recoveries. As a sophomore in 2000, he had 93 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions and nine passes defensed. A great, great college player. He looks fast, but it will be interesting to see his 40 time. If he can run a 4.4 or better I would think he for sure is a top 10. Even if he is slower than 4.5 he will go first round, his tackling and instincts are so awesume. Thank god the horns won't have to play against him any more.
