Name the players then. It’s all fine and good to say that, but who is it? Ancient Giannis. He’s the only number 1 guy available. How do you feel out the rest of the roster. If it could be done then Giannis wouldn’t have been in 5 straight 1st round losses.
DFS+Capela+3FRP for Trey Murphy FVV/Reed Amen Murphy/Tari KD/Jabari Sengun / Adams that looks pretty good to me and you have a lot of flexibility also limits KD’s minutes.
I like your posts normally and appreciate the creativity, but this is not the way… Horrific asset mismanagement.
Why would they take that when those drafts alone probably won't be good enough as Murphy. That's there future...
It simply isn't true that Kidd is the only guy who developed a jump shot after being bad at it. This is just off the top of my head, it's not even remotely close to being a comprehensive list: Brook Lopez Derrick Rose Rajon Rondo Blake Griffin Aaron Gordon Bam Adebayo Jimmy Butler Pascal Siakam Julius Randle ...list goes on. I'd argue it's actually the opposite of what you're saying, in 21st century basketball, players who were good enough to stay on the court and in the league and who could shoot FTs reasonably well almost always developed a usable 3P shot sooner or later. I'm actually pretty confident that, since he's a decent FT shooter now, Amen will eventually become at least a passable 3P shooter. The question for me isn't whether he will become a significantly better shooter, the question is, when does that happen. If it happens before age 25-26 or so, we're in great shape. If it doesn't happen until he's like 29, 30 or older--which has been the case for some of these guys--then his prime years will already be gone or nearly gone, and he'll never fully reach his potential.
It’s just a matter of how you rate the incoming players and Sengun and the draft picks. I think Sengun and the draft picks have lost a lot of value. I think Mobley and Rollins are good young players that fit around Amen, but I agree that we might be able to get a better deal down the line if Sengun bounces back. We don’t have to make a trade at all if Sengun or Amen develop a 3 pointer. Unlike a lot of folks, I was impressed with Mobley in the playoffs and he can be the stretch five with rim protection we need. That archetype is going to cost a lot.
i don’t think we are contending next season so I would opt for being patient and not selling low on Sengun. Frankly the only way I think it makes sense to trade Sengun is if we are turning him into another swing at a franchise guy in this draft or getting a proven young blue chip prospect. Otherwise, I think u see if he can make progress on the shooting this season. It would be great if we could do everything we can to put him in a position to succeed. Like giving him the help he needs so he’s not forced to create all of his offense by himself. If this is Sengun’s make or break yr we can’t keep putting him on an island. I still think we have a huge coaching problem, and he doesn’t fit with Amen, but I would not sell low on Sengun, especially since we aren’t contending next season.
I would require draft picks as well in that scenario. We would still need to try and find a stretch five or have Jabari put on about 25 lbs of muscle and I’m higher on Brandon Miller than most.
I agree the Rockets should not sell low on Sengun. If the return is not either another real swing at a franchise-level player or a proven young blue-chip prospect, then I’d rather be patient and see whether he can improve as a shooter and whether the roster/coaching context can put him in a better position. That said, “don’t sell low” to me does not mean there is no clock here (not meanig to imply you are saying there is no clock, just adding). Sengun only has three years left on his deal, and once players move beyond rookie-scale value, most contracts are either fair-value or underwater unless the player is a true max-level guy. If the Rockets are going to consider moving Sengun, the best value window is probably sometime between now and the end of the 2027 offseason, before the team is closer to a harder contractual decision.
That's the dilemma - How do you do everything we can to put him in a position to succeed when he just doesn't fit with Amen?
Murphy has a great contract and is an ascending player even at the age of 26. Not to say he will get a lot better but he is definitely in his prime and getting better Id give up the Worst of the pics in 2027, 2029 and a unprotected 2031 pick for him..
Sengun to Miami makes some sense to me because I think he fits well with Bam. They can re-sign Powell to replace Herro. Herro/Jovic(has negative valued Miami, but I think can be a decent player)/#13/Mitchell for Sengun. Both Herro and Mitchell sign Extensions. DFS+Capela+2031 first( lotto protected) for Myles Turner. FVV to Minnesota for DDV and a future first. Turner/Adams Smith/Jovic Durant/Eason Herro/Reed Amen/Mitchell Use #13 on whomever we like the most or try to move up.
we can start by putting a good point guard on the floor with him. One that can get the ball to him in the low post. No, a 33yr old point guard coming off ACL surgery won’t cut it.
This is very reasonable assessment. I’m not in a hurry to trade Sengun either, just enjoy trade talk more than this player or coach sucks talk. I think we’ve established that well over half of Clutchfans think Ime and Stone suck, so it gets boring arguing about it. We are entering trade talk season.
I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I will say what I see when I see these words. To me, I read this as wanting to spend FRPs to improve the PG spot in what many consider a non-contending year. I take this as much more harmful for future assets than just holding onto Durant who probably helps Sengun more on the offensive side of the ball than any PG that could be acquired with 2 FRPs or less. I would not want to do this unless Sengun or Amen is having a breakout season.
its all about that contract, I think they will get anywhere from 2-4 FRP for him like a Bane or Gobert return. I was being conservative with the 3FRP considering Capela is a negative contract and DFS is neutral due to it being expiring. This type of move in particular is what actually interests me the most because you are keeping your players and most of your picks while getting a potential untapped star. Trey Murphy III to me is the candidate for a BIG leap. His #s were gaudy last year and he takes very deep threes which provides extra spacing. I would protect the picks maybe top 4 and I would try to make them other team's picks so you maintain flexibility in the future with your own for trades. 2 FRP and a swap or two would be fine too.
