Firecracker fries fanny at fair
Springfield, IL, May. 11 (UPI) -- A Springfield, Ill., radio personality was recovering Tuesday in a hospital after a publicity stunt roasted his rear but raised his ratings.

Known as Jim the Photographer, on-air personality at WQLZ-FM 92.7, was in good condition Monday at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield after the explosive stunt, the State Journal-Register reported Tuesday.

Jim, whose real name is Jim McGill routinely performs physically punishing stunts on his "Ray Lytle's Morning Disaster" segment.

On Sunday, McGill was shooting bottle rockets from his buttocks atop the station's promotional Hummer vehicle -- a pre-show stunt he typically does for those waiting in line at concerts.

"I have done this more than 100 times and never had trouble," said McGill, whose accident was broadcast over the air via a live remote.

One particular rocket, though, had more sparks than usual, some of which apparently went down the launching tube. The firework was said to have gone off 5 feet to 10 feet away from McGill's buttocks.

McGill, who suffered burns on his buttock cheeks and anus, was taken by ambulance to Memorial, where he underwent surgery early Monday.

Observers said the accident will like boost the station's morning ratings.
