Yeah, I screwed up the Jabari part and I’m starting to be convinced it might be a better trade than I first thought. We would still be challenged from a shooting perspective and be in danger of being a 2nd apron team when Amen gets his max. Giving up the 3 first round picks really limits our future options and we still have to build out our bench and our shooting woes would be worse. Fvv, Brown, Amen, Jabari, Sengun has potential as a great defensive team, but horrible offensively, especially with Ime as coach. We would definitely need to move Sengun and FVV to become a well enough balanced team to compete for championships. I like it much better than trading for Giannis.
The guy just had his first season as a 1A guy and led the Celtics to a playoff birth with 29/7/5 on 48/35/80 splits. I really don't think its a very difficult choice. The Rockets don't have a guy like Jaylen Brown on their roster (except KD) and no one projects to be this good (out of the core 5). He should be first team all nba, second at worst. I don't care if KD and Reed can shoot well and if they aren't the problem. Kevin is 2 more seasons max and likely will have injuries, the rockets got extremely lucky during the regular season (wasted a HOFer twilight year by not getting someone to handle the ball) and then he missed most of the playoffs with injury. Reed looks way too undersized out there and isn't a good enough shooter to make up for his lack of size, nor is he fast enough to get consistent separation.
In a vacuum, Brown on your roster in place of Durant and Reed is a massive improvement. The problem is the overall situation we find ourselves in. Gutting a good portion of our trade assets, without addressing our shooting woes is a big issue. If we can get Brown and then re-balance the roster with more trades then sure go for it, but losing those valuable picks makes that way more difficult. Sengun and FVV and your remaining picks will have to be moved.
we just got blown off the floor by Luke Kennard and Rui Hachimura. A decent front office can find shooting around the margins.
Nope! Why would Portland want to acquire the cancerous Dickerson? This trade is also is giving up on Reed WAY too fast. I say, keep our big three together (Alpi, Amen &Reed) and let them reach their prime before pulling the plug on promising young talent. They are still a few years away from reaching their prime. Get rid of the cancer, aka Dickerson, and let the young guys grow up together. If it doesn't work out in 3-4 years then pull the plug.
I'm all for it for the Rockets, but why would Portland want KD? Why would Boston want Giannis? Both Portland and Boston can largely run it back. -Portland's young players get another year under their belt + minor roster tweaks (as long as they bring back Splitter at HC)... -Boston needs some minor roster tweaks and ensuring Tatum is healthy going into the playoffs. I dont think adding Giannis makes them better IMO. I think Milwaukee would do this in a heart beat and start their rebuild. Could even flip Grant in another trade. It's a no brainer for the Rockets IMO by getting a solid 2-way player that's severely under-rated, under 30, and in his prime. Still need shooters - can try leveraging Capela and/or DFS's contracts
Portland is reportedly interested in KD for whatever reason...probably the same (delusional) reason the Rockets were last season if they are indeed interested in him.
I think the best and easiest option is Alpi for Derrick White and Payton Pritchard. Rockets will end up having two decent shooters and ball handlers and Boston will get much needed post presence. Change Capela with a functional backup center to Adams and thats it..
Interesting, that opens up a number of intriguing possibilities if true. If no bigger three/four team deal can be found that makes sense, I would honestly consider just sending them KD for Grant plus one of Clingan or Scoot. I know Scoot's star has faded quite a bit, but he is only a few months older than Reed, and I still have some level of belief in him as a breakout candidate if he can stay healthy. I bet their cheapskate owner doesn't want to give a disappointing/unproven young guy an extension.
Idk why Boston would agree to this but I definitely would and I’m a huge Reed fan. Brown is a true Alpha.
So what about this front office makes them decent? We trade for Brown then what? More Ime defensive wings?
Well if I'm roleplaying as Rockets front office to sell it to Brad and Giannis. 1) Giannis may like the fit there, because BOS do have shooters and pririotize spacing and threes. Rockets do not. 2) Tatum has a lot going for his game, but some of the critique used to be that he settles for jump shots instead of driving. Brown does drive, but so will Giannis, so they're not losing too much there. Tatum is still recovering so they might prefer him to stay on the perimeter in the near term. 3) BOS lack bigs. I like Queta, Garza stepped up in moments, very good reg season but flamed out in the playoffs. Them getting Giannis allow them to go bigger and match up with the Kat and Emknees come playoff time. 4) Bill Simmons has a crush on Reed. And Rockets gets a two way in Brown . KD is a top 12, JBrown is a top 20 at the very least, and the window becomes bigger.
That's a more clogged toilet offense than this season. A Brown-centric offense without any outside shooting surrounding him would be putrid. Another year losing in the first round to any decent playoff team. But this time we'd have given away our future draft assets for the privilege.
I don't disagree if the idea is to go three's and space, but to do that, it can be with later moves, where the non shooters Amen/Sengun either improve or are flipped. This one move doesn't have to be the final move. And to go to Threes and Space, unless Ime changes, it have to be with the coaching regime after Udoka. The vision doesn't have to be all solved in one. And if Amen and Sengun are flipped, new draft assets could be replinished. This trade idea can still be workshopped, but I don't hate it. The vision has to start with the GM.
I'm not in favor of the trade, but it has two features I like: 1) Keeps the Rockets from acquiring Giannis. 2) Removes Durant from the Rockets.
