Ok, I have been scouring my computer for spyware and adware and stuff like that. Also, I know my girlfriend has a program called Spytech, I believe thats what it is called, that she got from this hacker guy she knows. She put it on my computer through a regular email she sent me, no files attached, a long ass time ago. She has it on all of her friends computers too just to spy on them for fun. I don't really care that she has it on my computer since we basically live together, but she was just like challenging me saying I could never get it off. So since I was challenged I got this program called SpyCop and it found some stuff on my computer but it said it was AdWare. newdotnet3_15.dll, freepeers-336.exe, and saveinstwm.exe was what it found plus some stuff in my system restore files. Also, now that I think about it this program may have only worked on AOL. What the program does that she has is it sends emails that her friends send to her account. I stopped using AOL about 9 months, so I'm not sure if she gets my emails anymore, but who knows. Anyhow...I know yall are thinking PSYCHO GIRL, but I already know that and I love her. So I am curious how do I get whatever I have off my computer? Also I have a 2nd question...that SpyCop program found an adware program in my "C:\Documents and Settings\Ron\Local Settings\Temp" directory, however the problem is I can't get to it through Windows. The "Local Settings" directory doesn't show up in my "Ron" directory. So I went to it through the DOS prompt and it does exist and it has files in there that it won't let me delete. It always freaks me out when I try to delete something and it says "Access Denied". Anyhow...How do I get the "Local Settings" folder to show up in Windows?
I can help you on half of your questions.. Im going to assume you are using 2K or XP..if not,,it should be almost the same in 98...but let me know and Ill check.. Local Settings is probably marked Hidden Go to your Folder Options(under Tools in XP) go to View and check the one that say "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck the ones that say "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide Protected operating system files" then make sure you have the necessary permissions to delete system files.. Ill do some checking on the other part of your question and get back to you. EDIT: HEre is a site with directions on how to get rid of NewDotNet (which is spyware/adware) http://www.cexx.org/newnet.htm Spytech is a company specializing in Remote surveillance software..no special hacker tool...if she got it from one, more than likely it was to keep from having to buy it.. try to be more specific if you can about which product it is.
