Agree but if you were to judge it on an impact to the team drafting you scale, one could argue that an AJ Griffin (retiring early to be a missionary) (declaring his bust status for the world to see) is less damaging to your franchise than an under cover bust that gets the lifetime guarantee.

I did say productive player that impacts winning and I believe Jabari Smith makes winning plays like timely rebounds or blocks or defensive stops in critical situations. That’s based on my visual observations. It’s my assessment based on what i have seen. Another fan may think differently. Also metrics don’t describe every phenomenon on the court and metrics alone should never be used to determine player value.

Take away the winning part any productive player that isn’t a star that is part of a rotation is not a bust. I mentioned this specifically. 15pts almost 8 boards a game and close to 1 block a game is production.

Lying about what? Now you’re playing some dumbass semantics game? Most players are not All Stars or whatever you want to call them. The article you provided showed this.

Have some accountability when you speak to me. Also why are you still discussing this with me when it hasn’t been a discussion and you stand by that term as a fact if a player isn’t an all star? And speaking of getting emotional you are doing exactly that right now. I find people like you on this site to be ridiculously unreasonable, easily triggered, socially odd people. Very odd

But what’s stopping Christian Wood from scoring 15 points, grabbing 8 boards, and 1 block a game on a team with Alperen Sengun, Kevin Durant, and Amen Thompson on it.

Where is the confidence that that isn’t a team capable of winning games across an 82 game season vs the various 29 other teams and then losing to a playoff team when you have to play them 7 times in a row coming from?

This is your play book just blame me for the stuff you say lol You are one of the biggest deflectors on here. Accountability and semantics is all you have been doing this whole time. Regardless Ill continue to call Bari a bust until he proves me wrong and you can cry in your pillow for all I care.

I agree and I would argue that holding on to Jabri when he really is a bench player is hurting Amen. If we didnt have Bari we would be actually looking for other guards and actually playing Amen in his natural position. Since Ime inisists on playing Bari at the 4 that forces Amen to have to experiment at point guard.

I simply pointed out your flawed logic, dishonesty, and lack of accountability. That’s all on you to deal with not me. Who cares if you think he’s a bust? It’s your opinion as I’ve said all along. Your opinion doesn’t matter to me. I simply discussed the topic with you and I see that you’re unable to do that. You can keep holding onto your dumbass opinion. But the question is why are you on this site when you don’t want discussion? And why do you keep responding to me when you didn’t read my longer response? That’s dumb as fuc*

I don’t understand what this has to do with our discussion of what the term bust means

Brother you literally said "People keep acting like him being a bust is Fact" and "What even is a Star". When I said the fact is that top 3 picks ARE ALLSTARS which is a fact and that him being a Bust is my opinion and I laid out why. You keep misquoting me on purpose then playing victim. Then blaming me for your dishonesty and lack of accountability.

My point exactly, word policing is a slippery soap. Now we’re drawing into question what winning and productive mean.

    my direct quotes:

The term “bust” was never a fact and we have people on this site arguing it is.

And what defines a “star”? Is making the All Star game (which is a subjective process and often popularity contest) a definitive marker of what a star is or should be? Jrue holliday only made 2 all star games, yet one of the best pg’s for a long time.

Those are my quotes. If you’re going to quote me then quote it correctly.

You started off saying Jabari is a bust by being a number 1 pick. Then after going back and forth you arbitrarily said top 3 picks almost always all stars when the hoops hype article said 42% of num 2 picks are stars and 45% of 3 picks are stars. How is this most? That’s less than half from each of those 2 groupings.

This is the problem. People like you see it as a challenge when it’s a discussion. My main point was:

The term is subjective not a fact. And you labeling smith or any player a bust is simply your opinion especially when a player is productive

    Your quote:

Most guys picked there are allstars. not only is he not one buthe's not even close. So he's a bust.

I've already explained Jabari is a bust because he was hyped as the #1 pick.

This means you believe it’s a fact that a player is a bust if he isn’t a star and I argued this point. He wasn’t even the first pick. There wasn’t a concensus 1st

Defining a bust from these numbers is mere opinon since there’s no mandatory requirement that players become “stars” and nothing that states that a player is a failure if he isn’t a “star”.

I went beyond the first pick or first 3 picks and asked what about other lottery players. Why do you keep focusing on first pick (Which changed to first 3). Is making an all star team the end all be all for who gets to be labeled a bust or not? Do teams just draft any player after the first 3 picks with no expectations? You addressed none of this and instead kept going on about me blaming you or falsely accusing me of emotion while maintaining you’re right. You need to be better at discussion or you shouldn’t be on clutchfans because you suck at expressing your thoughts

You can do that as that’s your opinion. In fact you can question anything in our existence. Now it’s getting into a weird metaphysical area. But if that’s your opinion then it’s yours. You’re entitled to it

I also didn’t police anything. I said the term bust is a subjective term. Never said it specifically should mean one thing. I also said it’s simply my opinion not fact.

Fair, I like your post. Maybe a draft pick and a situation can be a ‘bust’ when the player isn’t.

like could argue Andrew Wiggins was a bust for the Timberwolves as a draft selection who went on to have a solid career.

Nic Batum was a bust for the Washington Wizards when they gave him that big 2nd contract off of potential to step up as top guy but for every team afterwards that got him at a discount he was a solid pickup.

What I said was a quote YOU SAID BOTH. Which is why I said you were dishonest. Youre saying people like me but its you. Maybe youre just forgetful. You dont even remember what you said.
You keep accusing me of what youre guilty of.

And for the record @LosPollosHermanos Reed Sheppard isn’t a bust. He still produced this year. He was in the rotation. Time will tell but for now he isn’t. I don’t think he will be. If he didn’t start or in the rotation and stashed on the bench then he might be in my opinion.

Yeah, fair point. I do consider Darko to be a bust. I will say though, Jabari is clearly better than Darko was.

I feel like different people just use "bust" to mean different things.

For some people it seems to be "didn't live up to expectations for his draft position". I personally don't like using the word "bust" for this one because it ignores context, some drafts are better than others, there are almost always surprising players picked later that a bunch of other teams passed up on but turn out better, that sort of thing.

The other way people use it is "this guy just sucks in an NBA context and is either not an NBA-caliber player or barely warrants rotation minutes, if at all". I like this one better because it's less context-dependent. If a guy sucks in the NBA he just sucks in the NBA. That's clearly a bust.

To me none of our top 5 picks have gotten to this level of bad. Even Jalen Green who we decided to get rid of while the getting was good is clearly an NBA rotation player who will likely play in the league into his 30s. It just might end up being as a 6th man, which is undoubtedly disappointing from a #2 overall pick.
