Texans didn’t publicize it , but Stroud was hurt last offseason. He was limited. You saw it in his accuracy and footwork last season.
I still can't get those last two games out of my mind. They were nightmarish. The worst back to back QB performances I have ever seen at any level. He should have been benched during both games. He has a lot to prove.
He must've been hurt all season then if his footwork and accuracy was off due to injury with the way he played in the playoffs. I'm kinda being hard on him and whatnot but last season he had disappointed many. I do hope he plays great this upcoming season and proves he's a QB that's clutch and can will his team to win games. I still hope he's better than what he's shown his rookie year, but the last 2 years has made me doubt he can ever surpass it.
It is about developing bad habits. His foot work has been off the last 2 years. The pressure in year 2 and be beat up and injured caused habits that were magnified in year 3. That is why you have the QB coach change and Stroud working with Straffod’s coach in the offseason. New approaches and ideas. It is also part of the reason the Texans revamped the Oline. They kept Ingram, Brown and Ersery because they are physical. Howard is gone because he was more finesse. They drafted 2 physical players that can play guard and center. This will allow them to pound the ball on the ground and open up the play action game. I think the offense will evolve to look more like a 49ers, Rams, and Seahawks offense where the ground game opens up the pass game.
It was the beginning of season 2 that his bad habits started showing, leading some to wonder if he took his rookie success for granted.
So for the last two years he's been unable to fix his footwork, but this is the year he's going to fix it? Jerrod Johnson is a fine QB coach
And yet he cannot get an OC job. Sometimes a different approach is needed. Change can be good. There are countless examples where a player responds differently with more success by just changing coaching, especially QBs (Look at Darnold and Daniel Jones as recent examples).
No, I think it came so easy after year 1, that he thought why change what he was doing previously. And after yr 2 , there was talk about him having a shoulder injury, so he didn't have much of an off season, nor did he throw much in camp, so he got off to a slow start and it lingered through all yr.
I'm all for changing coaches again, maybe this QB coach can help make CJ avg. But ain't nobody on the offensive side of the coaching tree ever going to get promotions with CJ at QB. But hey, maybe he can become Daniel Jones or Darnold
