Step One: Get swept by a crippled Lakers team - already halfway there!

Step Two: Fire Ime - end rugby ball

Step Three: Hire Chris Paul as head coach
Former point god with vast knowledge plus broad & lengthy experience
Deep connections throughout the NBA due to his experience, camps, and running the Players Association - as the lottery odds flatten, FA recruiting will become more important for team building
The one person on Earth most likely to rehabilitate Reed

Step Four: Trade Amen, Sengun, Steven, DFS, the 2027 PHX pick, and both 2029 picks for Giannis & Bobby Portis
You: "Nooo! Amen will be a star! And Steven is the key!" Me: "See Step Two - end rugby ball"
You: "Nooo! Picks will be stars!" Me: "We had a lot of picks, none became stars"
You: "Nooo! Giannis could get hurt!" Me: "No risk, no reward, and there are no sure things"
You: "Nooo! Too much for Giannis!" Me: "You'll be bidding against six teams at least"
You: "Nooo! Trade KD!" Me: "Have you seen the rest of our team play?"

Step Five: Trade Capela for Egor Demin by eliminating the 2027 BKN swap
You: "Nooo! Pick will be a star!" Me: "See Step Four"

Step Six: Draft a wing in the 2nd round

Step Seven: Give Tari the qualifying offer & nothing more - no one will do better

Step Eight: Sign an actual shooting guard (to, you know, shoot) with the MLE
Candidates include Ayo Dosunmu, Luke Kennard, Quentin Grimes, Coby White

Step Nine: Sign a veteran backup center for the minimum who can shoot
Candidates include Brook Lopez, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis

    Step Ten: Resign Aaron Holiday
Insert Scola "He look OK" meme here

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2026-27 Houston Rockets:
PG: VanVleet / Sheppard / Holiday
SG: Dosunmu / 2nd round draft pick
    SF: Durant / Demin
    PF: Antetokounmpo / Eason
    C: Smith, Jr. / Portis / Lopez

Guards who can play! Giant front court! Depth! All-stars! Championship experience! Young players with upside! And a lineup that averages 38.5% from 3!!!

Plus you still have all of your own picks for when Fred, KD, Giannis, and Portis age out. Do your best to sync up their contracts & you could quickly rebuild when the time comes.

You: "Unlikely" Me: "Getting more likely by the day"

You: "TL;DR" Me: "Sorry, I'm not on TikTok"

That team also probably loses in the first round and has no infrastructure in place to slot an actually-successful draft pick or young star into, so it's just Silas-ball all over again the minute Giannis and KD are cooked, which could literally be next season given their age/injury histories.

I obviously agree that Ime Udoka needs to go and the roster needs to stop being obsessively focused on the things Ime Udoka is obsessively focused on. I don't think trading for Giannis gets us anywhere though, it just digs us into a deeper hole.

If we're going to rebuild again anyway we might as well skip the step where we trade away half of the young guys for an aging star and get right into it.

How is getting Giannis ending rugby ball? That is leaning into it.

also, I imagine many players hate Chris Paul to the point they woulf avoid us.

Giannis is a much better shooter than Amen, Sengun, and Steven, and that's before you consider how many free throws he generates. But more so, my plan swaps Amen, Sengun, and Steven for Dosunmu, Giannis, and Portis, so the overall increase in shooting is even greater.

Regarding CP3, to get an idea of what he means to other players, check out this recent ESPN feature on him: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...s-paul-retirement-player-impact-curry-brunson

I really don’t think it’s the end of the world. I do think you gotta trade Sengun this off season. Moves I would make

If Giannis is gonna cost the farm + picks I would trade

Sengun to Hornets for Williams, Salaun, Mann + (2) 1st

FVV + PHX27’ for Dejounte Murray. Could be extended on smaller deal or traded as an expiring after next season

DFS + 1st or Tari + 2nds for Ty Jerome(9th in player EPM)

Try to grab a couple more guards in FA for bench

    Murray / Reed / Mann
    Jerome(42% 3pt) / FA / FA
    KD / Tari / Amen
    Amen / Williams(39% 3pt) / Jabari / Salaun
    Jabari / Adams / Capella

Probably try a S&T with Tari

Would still have Nets27’, Hou28’, PHX & Suns 29’s, and (2) 1st from Hornets to retool around. Hopefully Nets 27’ brings us that future guard

Yep, I'm all for going back to accumulating draft picks.

I'd trade literally the entire team and whoever came back as matching salary in those trades I'd trade too.

OKC model - lots and lots of draft picks.

Eventually one or two have to hit.

I would rather go and try for Duren than Giannis, want nothing to do with a Greek that said his wife has the pants on....

Duren and picks going forward... go get Tiago Splitter, Portland has been lowballing him.

Tiago hopefully can get the Michigan Wolverine assistant coach. And an offense genius.

Hire one of OKC guys, even if it's the Janitor.

    And yeah fire Stone BTW!!!
