No… see my above post regarding he’s better off on a true contender and is overpaid on any other team (including Houston). I’m agreeing with you.

He does have a higher WAR already now than at any other season of his career, so he’s in his prime… getting paid for the GG’s, and is invaluable towards the Braves leading the NL (that’s from Braves fans, not here). He’s a Mario Elie-type role player on a Rockets or Spurs championship team, nothing more/nothing less.

Apologies if this is not the narrative you’re going for…

That would make him even more of a head case than what the organization already believes he is.

There’s been the occasional meltdown in his tenure here (still remember that Baltimore game)… but this year he’s gone full simple jack.

I missed the game today and assume you watched…was he really throwing a cutter or is Gameday confusing his slider for a cutter? It’s odd because the velocity on the pitches it’s calling a cutter is higher than his slider though.

The offense was subpar but I did hear a couple good catches on radio against Yordan and another player with runners on. The bright side is the bullpen. Astros look stacked with Hader and maybe Abreu returning to form. We still have other guys regardless of Bryan but he hit 96 yesterday and likely will perform unless injury. The elephant yesterday was once again Mike "Multi-Hr Bomb" Burrows -- and he lived up to his name and he didn't wait long by executing 1st inning. He doesn't completely kill the bullpen with <4 IP so there's that. He won't be seen again for about a week so Astros have good promise..

    Win the next one.

    Mariners lose.

The next time I see a 95mph four seamer come out of Burrows hand will be a time too soon. I knew he’d been burnt on it this year but 11 of the 17 HRs, ouch. If he could ever get consistency locating his FB he’s a solid 5.

That 1st AB vs. Butler, even though Butler got a hit it was good Burrows. He had three perfectly located FBs. Butler got his hit off the change up.

i didn't fully watch near the end as i was doing stuff around the house. apparently he was throwing cutters

even statcast shows cutters. interesting development. his 4-seamer were 95-96 so typical i guess?

Thanks, forgot you could watch the videos on Savant. They definitely looked like cutters.

First time in his career he’s thrown one and he threw four of them. That’s crazy.

definitely took me a looong time to learn how to use savant/statcast search function properly. it was so overwhelming with all the drop down menus and selections. one helluva powerful tool

back to bryan abreu. according to savant/statcast, he threw a total of 13 cutters this season and started earlier this month with the first time on June 2nd against the pirates. i'm preeeeeetty sure savant/statcast went back and updated these pitches recently if not yesterday. because i went and watch the replays on these pitches, both broadcasts list these pitches as 4-seamer with the exception two times where they list them as sliders lol. broadcasts didn't start showing as cutters until yesterday's game

i guess this explains why sometimes the velo on his "4-seamer" appeared to be down. dude trying to incorporate a new pitch mid-season
