Its not an either or thing. He isnt Joker and he will never be and expecting him to be is why he gets so much hate. He is a way better defender than Joker but cant shoot like Joker. Thats his achetype. In his prime if he becomes a superstar he wont be Joker he'll be Sengun. ALSO I expect way more from our top 3 pick. This guy has the most potential of all of them he better develop a shot or we need to stop playing him at guard. You cant build around a player who relies too much on others to score.
Neither one - They aren't good enough. You build around a STAR player, both of these guys are SUPER Role players right now. Not worth building around, and if you have to trade either of them to get a superstar - you do it. The Rockets do not have a BUILD AROUND guy, everyone should be available until they do. DD
Or just knows Sengun is 5th in the entire league in unassisted scoring percentage while leading the Rockets in assists. What elite skill does Amen have to build around? Defense?
How do you build around a big who can’t shoot or protect the rim? He’s a good player, but it is an archetype that is difficult to work with.
the key words you said are “right now”. Potential is something this board seems to have no handle on. Amen with a shot is a superstar (potential), he may never get there, but he is the most likely on this team. Sengun with a shot becomes an offensive star, but his physical limitations will keep him from superstar status. Reed’s physical limitations will also limit his ceiling. Jabari still has star potential if he can put on 25 lbs of muscle and becomes a stretch center (I think this is unlikely), but not beyond the realm. The thing about our group of guys is they are all young. Impatience by the fans and Stone, and poor coaching are holding them back. What the Rockets should do is rid themselves of Ime, KD, FVV, and Adams for either youth with potential or picks (however middlin) and give all the young guys a lot of runway to develop. Go back to the original idea of fast and furious with length. What they will do is run it back with FVV and KD or gut the team for another walking ghost of a superstar.
We didnt just give up Green. You seem biased thats why youre framing it "KD for Green" it wasnt. The point that KD was a mistake is clear to anyone with any basic bball knowledge or brains at all. We couldve kept DIllion and just traded Jalen and the pick for a young guard which is what I wanted at the time. Its clear it was a mistake because KD is an old ass b****. Does that answer your question or are you gonna KD glaze and pretend everything worked out?
I dont think we can build around non superstars so I said neither BUT I will never understand expecting your center to shoot (most centers in the nba cant shoot by the way) but not expecting your shooting guard to be able to shoot. Its like Clutchfans comes up with these talking points, convinces themselves its true and runs with it. NBA history is filled with centers who couldnt shoot the 3 but are successful but I cant really say the same about todays nba and shooting guards or point guards which is where Ime in his wisdom is playing amen.
Amen with a shot is still not a better playmaker than Sengun with shot. As we saw this season, when has to do more offense then his defense dips.
Name the last guy with POTENTIAL that became a superstar, most players come into the league LOOKING like the real deal, none of ours do, they don't jump out and say....ME..... Can they develop, sure, I guess, but if there is someone like ANT that breaks loose you trade anyone for him. We should be doing it the old Morey way, until we get a superstar or one identifies as one, you trade anyone. Amen has had 3 years to learn to shoot, he ain't gonna get it....he is a super role player... DD
In the playoffs, Amen played 44 minuites a game leading the league while Alpi just 38 minutes even less than Jabaris 41 minuites Amen was better across the board. Offense, defense, EFG & TS efficiency, net/BPM, assist ratio, assist %, assist to turnover ratio, turnover % Amen was 6th in potential assists across the league in the playoffs Alpi was 14th. Amen had almost 2.3 assists per turnover while Alpi barely had 1.5 per turnover
The playoffs are a small sample size. We played a few games. What happens in a full season? You cant go by one series. It will make you make bad trades.
And yet it was still Sengun who was the primary playmaker on offense. The bigger sample size is Sengun being top 5 in back to back seasons of scoring unassisted while leading the team in assists this year. For reference, Amen was in the low 40s in the same scoring unassisted percentage metric. Amen may end up being better overall than Sengun or he may currently be due to the two way. However, Amen just hasn't shown he has the same playmaking ability as Sengun.
If they can offload KD and Sengun this offseason for assets, whether that be established good players under 30 or good draft picks, I'd consider it a move in the right direction. Ime's defense clearly doesn't work without a defensive big man, and his offense doesn't work at all so Sengun can't help us much with that.
Need to establish what build around means.. Are the Knicks building around OG and Karl Anthony Towns? Obviously neither guy is Luka or Shai but both are build around pieces in a 26’ Knicks or 24’ Celtics type of build. They will need other very good players with them. With the half court shooting limitation you need some development there, you need your other guys to all be + shooters, and you need to play in the half court less.
No more drafting people who can't handle the ball and can't shoot unless they're an amazing athletic defensive rebounding machine.
