The jury is still out on whether he will even return to being an NBA rotation player. He's already 32 years old and he was already showing sings of decline at age 30 before having a major leg injury and surgery.

I don't like the idea of extending him at all. We should be looking to package his salary with some 2nd round picks to get an actual rotation player from a non-contender.

I don't think the whole strategy of crush the glass, don't turn it over, have Durant hit shots is good enough to work. Or rather, every peice of the young core has to drastically improve for it to work. I don't see a path to a ring without it, and i don't see Ime helping the young guys offensively at all. So, i don't think it matters what they do with Fred... we're talking about what color to paint the Honda while racing Ferrari's.

Yes, you restructure his contract, and while you are at it, you eliminate his no-trade contract. This gives you max flexibility. If he comes back strong from his injury, you have a capable PG. If he doesn't recover from the injury, his contract is less burdensome.

No, No, No...We need to trade his arse. FVV won't stay healthy and will continue to take up too much of the cap.

I don't think the SI numbers are what would happen... same amount of dollars over more years? Why would FVV do that? He has $25 million in hand with the player option... it would be something like 3 years $40 million... or 2 years $32.5 Million So the real question is would you like FVV here for 2-3 more years and add something like $7.5 million a year onto the end of this contract... I am in the trade him camp...

It is all on FVV, he has the option to opt in or leave.

We need to give him a lifetime contract so Ime can keep trying to play him 40 minutes a game when he's 60.

What if we restructure his deal with a contingency that FVV would be the backup for Reed?
If Reed is not the long term option for us at point guard, let's increase his trade value by giving him an opportunity to start while keeping Fred's minutes down through the trade deadline.
I would prefer to have Collin Sexton though

The Rockets this last off season - extended FVV.... extended Jabari.... signed Adams.... signed DFS and signed Capela.... and extended Durant.

Right now--- FVV, Adams and Capela all are negative assets.

Jabari Smith is a good signing --- and KD played very well last year, but comes with a heavy injury risk at 38 years old.

Overall --- the Rockets could have done a lot better in managing their money.,

Ime Udoka would melt like the Wicked Witch if Stone summoned the, well, stones to trade FVV.
Unless it involved acquisition of an All Star caliber player (obviously with 1st rounders and young talent attached).
Even then, you get the idea FVV and Ime are BFFs.

Yes, I think he’ll opt out and sign another 2 or 1+1

Having Fred play out the last yr of his contract is not the end of the world. Extending a 32 yr old coming off ACL surgery would be a terrible move.

People have this weird thing where 33 is super old…. And random injuries mean injury prone.

    As always…. It depends….

Who could we trade for FVV that can make this team better at playmaking?

If not, can we restructure FVV’s deal to open up more cap this season to squeeze someone else in?

If not, his contract is expiring.

Fred's extension will include a future assistant coaching position and future VP of Operations.

That article makes no sense. It’s a player option. Why would he decline it to make the same money over a longer period? If we restructure, it’ll be for more money overall but less this season.

I think it is in the teams beat interests to renegotiate him.

3 years [2+1] is best, and the lowest possible starting salary!!
For FVV, if he is turns down 25 mill, at absolute best he gets MLE from another team [3x45M]. So I cannot see how there is a world where we offer more than that. Anything under that is a win - he'll still be our starting PG next year, and then would be a valuable backup for another couple of seasons.
    Maybe we get
    13.5 // 14.6 // 15.7

Ideally it puts us in a position where we can use the full MLE and retain Tari without having to dump much salary

    Yea, it's weird framing.

FVV will go from $25 mil 1 yr (player option) to 16 mil 3 yr (team option).

now, now Plow. Relax. FVV is Mr Intangibles. Thus, therefore ergo you must ignore the tangibles.
