At least your own 2021 post pic survived in there :D

The monocle thread has gotten bumped up for every single coach since Adelman. So Udoka is due for one

No disrespect to Rudy, but Rick was my favorite Rockets coach...

I wish we would play his style of offense today...

RIP, genuinely thought he passed years ago. Maybe it was his wife.

That Clyde-led Portland team was special too.

With Adelman as coach instead of Ime, we might still be playing.

I remember he stood up for his assistants (Sikma, Dunn, Turner), when Morey wanted to install his own assistants (I think Finch). That led to Rick leaving.

Right, he was asked to groom Finch to be the future head coach. I remember he said afterward that some of the things they wanted him to do in order for him to stay was really unnecessary. It was clear that he wasn't wanted as the Rockets long term coach. The irony was that Finch was never hired. They opted for McHale instead.

This one hits pretty hard. Always really liked his approach, especially coming off the Van Gundy years, and he always seemed to get the most out of his teams. Never heard a player say anything other than how much they really enjoyed playing for him.

Outside of the playoff run with Artest, I really enjoyed the 09-10 and 10-11 seasons too. Basically had zero expectations for those years after Yao kept getting hurt and they still played an entertaining style while competing for a playoff spot all season. To finish with winning records both of those years with those rosters really speaks to how good of a coach he really was.

I just finished watching today’s episode of PTI, they said that David Adelman said his dad felt his best team was the 2009 rockets which took the eventual champion lakers to seven games without Tmac and Yao.

Imagine a healthy Yao and TMac that year

Heck, just imagine a healthy Yao and Deke in game 7 (since Mac had already checked out at the start of the season)

How brooks, Scola, Landry, Lowry and co did that never ceases to amaze me. Rick’s teams played with so much heart
