The reason I keep bringing this up is he has the bat speed, power and athleticism to be a MVP candidate with 40+ home runs. It's the untapped potential that has me wanting him to fix it.
There was only one Tony Gwynn in the history of baseball. If Cam could make contact as consistently as Tony, then this conversation would be mute. He was my favorite non Astro growing up.
Has that been true throughout all eras of MLB in history and in the future ? To me , walk and strikeout rate are much truer indications . Of long term success . That is where he needs to focus his energies. Isaac paredes literally has the perfect pull launch angle for minute maid park . But he's only a great player for us because he can wait for his pitch and take walks . Cam still needs to improve at the fundamentals at the plate . Launch angle is an advanced course
True, just trying to offer some perspective on the long journey some top prospects face. Development isn't always linear. That being said, Cam's defense gives him a much higher floor. This explains why Cam has accrued 2.9 WAR to Walker's 0.5 WAR so far in their careers. That's how bad Walker was the last 2 seasons (-0.8 and -1.7).
