FVV can't beat anyone off the dribble and is a ok defender. To think this team didn't go further because of FVV injury is ridiculous. He had 2 good games vs GSW in the playofgd last year. The Rockets overpaid for maturity because of their poor choices in the draft.
I guarantee you we aren't trading KD this offseason unless he wants out. I don't see why it's a big gamble with KD next season.... The Rockets never wanted him to play as many minutes or have such a load to carry running the offense.
I’m just not sure there’s a large market out there for him. Which playoff team really underperformed and needs a shakeup? If they could get Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid for Durant and Capela, I’d do that.
The gamble is opportunity cost. If you can get a mid frp for him in this draft you do it. What is the purpose of keeping him, another first round exit?
Energy must always be conserved. You add three players into the mix and the force will need balance that out. How that entropy will manifest is anybody’s guess.
I know pessimism is popular right now.... But a mid FRP is most likely to turn into a rotation player (and that's being optimistic) that will be less useful in getting out of the first round. I know it's hard to believe.... but we could lose in the WCF with some luck and a roster tweak. MOST importantly.... Tilman would rather lose in the first round than take a couple of seasons to take a stepback.
The organization acting like a butt hurt petulant child and trading KD out of spite would be the stupidest thing since Tilman made the WB trade.
how do u justify not recouping assets for KD when we aren’t contending? Seriously I’m curious what ur rationale is.
Assuming KD doesn't want out this offseason: 1) Does Tilman think we are not trying to contend? I don't think y'all are going to see eye to eye on the direction of the franchise. 2) Because of the above, the Rockets will try to use non KD assets for a Mitchell/Giannis/Jaylen Brown/player X. 3) Can still recoup assets at the midseason deadline or when KD is an expiring contract. I don't run the team so my posts/thoughts/rationale are based around the fact that Tilman is not going to take a step back unless he has too.
Yes, I feel confident in saying that Tilman would prefer to keep KD until at least the midseason deadline. I feel especially confident in saying that Tilman is the one who gets to decide such things... as the owner. I know you are singularly focused on this draft but KD can still be recouped at a later date. Will it be for less than you could get now? Most likely, but the Rockets will try to add to KD first.
Adding Fred and Steven back is like getting excited for Derek Harper and Herb Williams making a comeback.
but u do concede we are not contending next season. So it’s smart to take less for KD at the deadline as opposed to getting more now? He could also get injured and then u can’t move him at the deadline. I’m just not understanding why we would keep a 38 yr old on the roster next season if we aren’t contending.
How could I or you concede we aren't contending next season without seeing if we get Mitchell/Giannis/Jaylen Brown/Player X?
I'll butt in to say that better teams than the Rockets are already not contending with those players. IMO the Rockets should build through the draft rather than relying on aging players. I enjoy watching young players improve more than old players decline. Can they contend with one of those players? I don't think so. Can they contend building through the draft? The evidence indicates probably not with this FO and coaching staff. Still, I'd enjoy it more.
He has value still. He isnt the solution to any issue this team has. He cant defend. He cant dribble. He cant pass. And what do you mean by spite? What would the Rockets have to be spiteful about? The Rockets are trying to build a contender like the one down the street did. You do that from the ground up not by grinding out Ws with a bunch of has beens. Tilman is likely *not* on board with trading for another aging star.
Stevo is a baller - was incredible for us in the playoffs last year and the main reason we were putting up historic OReb numbers in the first half of this year FVV is old and has man boobs now but even replacement-level PG production is better than what Reed gave us these playoffs And KD was just all-NBA 2nd team You make one solid offseason move (Ty Jerome level), and the top 9 of this team is looking pretty good (FVV/Jerome/Reed/Amen/KD/Tari/Jabari/Sengun/Adams). Maybe DFS gets in form one year removed from his surgery, and if not, he's an expiring that we could use to get another upgrade to the rotation Yes there is a gap between us and OKC/SAS, but we have a rotation good enough to be a top 5-8 team in the league and the assets to make a big move if the opportunity presents itself. And if things go to **** due to injuries + none of our young guys taking the next step, you retool with a pretty deep war chest of trade assets and a pretty clean cap sheet. There are far worse places to be as an organization
