Jason Schiavone hit his 2nd homer with Corpus and 19th on the season. He's had to do some adjusting as he was 3-22 with the Hooks entering tonight, although he's drawn 6 walks since his promotion.
One signing just appeared on the transactions page: LHP Adam Shoemaker signed yesterday and was sent to the FCL. A native of Cambridge, Ontario (Toronto area), Shoemaker was an 11th-round pick of the Braves in 2021 and signed for $477,500 (about mid-5th round money). Yes, he's another Dana Brown-era pick. Shoemaker didn't really get a chance to showcase his stuff during his draft year because of Ontario's COVID protocols, but he had a fastball up to 95 and a rudimentary silder and changeup as his off-speed pitches as an amateur. Shoemaker never really put his stuff together in the Braves' system as he had a 6.26 ERA in three cracks at Class A. In 2025, he went 2-3 with 2 saves and a 5.02 ERA in 23 relief appearances between both Class A levels (18 Augusta, 5 Rome). Has strikeout stuff... but no real grasp of command and control.
Shoemaker, Shewmake…the Astros will apparently take all Braves castoffs with surnames that reference crafting footwear.
He went on a quest to find that ball and never came back. Some say he hit is so far that it disintegrated into thin air, thus his journey continues.
Nehomar Ochoa hit his 5th home run of the season for Fayetteville. Charlie Weber turned in 6 solid innings; he allowed a run on a solo homer, one other hit, and struck out 3.
Should be a fun guy to follow. I always like to keep track of our 11th round picks, he was a Braves 11th rounder so I have extra unfounded hopes for him.
