dezenzo, brice, loperfido, cole, and cam smith none of these guys are running away with the given opportunities one of these guys need to cement themselves as an everyday starter
that's a rare high fastball homerun for pena i feel rarely does pena connect with pitches above the zone
I like the fight 7 runs after that disaster in the first that could have ended if Walker moved in front of that ball..... DD
I just wish Walker's play was scored an error for stat purposes. Astros fought which minimized the differential hit, Alexander ate innings, Blubaugh didn't suck, leverage guys get rest, and no new injuries -- not too shabby, just win tomorrow. The streak was great, but Astros need to avoid consecutive losses too. L streaks is why were here. Shoutout to Bregman and the Cubs, TEN.
Giving up 8 runs in the 1st should mean that Alexander should give up his 40-man spot. We really don’t need to see him in an Astros uniform anymore.
Well at least Alexander hoovered up some innings to make up for giving the game away. With competent starters finally appearing this should probably be the end of the road for him. We have other guys who can go out there and do what he does.
FFS what a game. Got seduced again with few wins and could't help myself from being super pumped for a moment. At the end of a season this might be one of the turning points just giving this game in 1st inning. Everybody has winning and losing streaks but keeping it up and stopping it extra important for momentum and gaining/giving up ground. Now we have DeGrom and Eovaldi coming and it seems Eovaldi still can compete against us (meaning we are dumbfounded for 7IP that he has a splitter, who knew)and make Astros his personal b*tch. After that overall good Brewers and Pirates with their pitching. Luckily both at home. I understand Alexander has to eat what he cooked at 0-8 and then be sent down/released whatever but on crucial win streak should pitcher have a chance to give 8 runs in first? We used only 3 pitchers yesterday and this game against Leiter more probable chance to win than next two. What was the plan if Alexander face plants or was it gonna be 0-15 and forfeit in 1st inning if that happens? The Walker play. He was more behind the ball before he moved/reacted. That's what kids do try to make it look nice leather work hockey goalie style (if caught) but actually are terrified it pinballing to pecks and chin. Nutless play and he is running that infield as leader with Pena. Saw the spin and velocity and decided "yeah thats a no". Feels poisonous to say that because he has been so good. Hopefully teams keep pitching to Yordan because if they stop and Walker cools off with our overall runners on bases hitting (moving and scoring them) this comeback might be cut pretty short.
They should stop this experiment running minor leaguers out there to eat innings and sacrifice games. They should be trading for inexpensive backend veterans who will give us a 4.50 era and a chance. Those cost you a little salary and a low A prospect or two.
Sunny side grass greener etc. They were never going to win every remaining game. It was a AAAA replacement starter and not a regular rotation member who crapped the bed. They still have a 3-2 season series lead for tiebreakers and Silver Boot purposes Alexander settled down and kept the bullpen in good shape Outscored them 7-2 over the last 8 innings. They fought back The offense showed up again
