I think it’s a pretty good trade, but a PR nightmare. Only way it wouldn’t be is if we could turn the picks and KD or one of our other 27 picks into a top 5 pick this year. If that happens it would be a great trade. Here’s a 3 way that would work for me: Clippers cut off below would get KD, two charlotte picks and the 27 phoenix pick protect 1-4 or even un-protected if necessary.
He is not a good fit. So no. 33% 3 pt shooter and his contract is atrocious for 4 years going up to 61m. Wouldn't make us any more competitive with OKC or SA. Only way it makes any sense is to give them KD and we get back their 26 pick, atl 27 pick and Dal 30 pick.
I don’t see clippers giving up a top 5 in that trade. I agree try to flip the Hornets picks to a top 10 maybe if you can. I just think people overvalue. Either gonna have to add onto him for a big swing like Giannis or probably bring back a bad contract which I’d avoid too. I don’t see Sengun long term and would do my original deal if on the table. I’m not sure the blue chip player or pick we could get with just him
You may be right, but 3 really good picks for 1 plus KD might tempt them. Their owner could convince himself they could make a run with Kawhi and Durant and get a head-start on a re-build. I think the sure things in this draft are top 3, but because of our situation I would pay a lot for top 5 just in case. I don't think the return for Sengun in your original trade is good enough, unless we can flip those picks for a significantly higher pick. I think Sengun will bounce back if we ever get a decent coach.
He's a bad fit with Reed and Sengun defensively moreso than he is a bad fit with our other guys because of his 3P% in my opinion. He isn't a very good 3P shooter, but he does shoot a lot of them, and he shoots 35% when wide open, so teams are guarding him at the perimeter. Because he likes to play an uptempo game and spaces the floor well enough, I think he would actually fit fairly well next to Amen, Jabari, Tari. The biggest issue with Fox is like you said that his contract is horrible. $55M average annual value through 2030. I don't think many teams will be interested in paying him that. There might be a specific circumstance where I'd consider trading for him, but it would have to be a lot very specific dominoes falling for it to make any sense at all, and the Spurs would have to basically pay us to take him in the form of other surplus value.
I would rather trade both Amen and Sengun for a guy who has the skill set to be the number 1 guy, Amen and Sengun can’t shoot and most likely will never develop a jump shot or be a number one guy, Dallas has Cooper Flagg and San Antonio has Victor, I’m fine with trading both Sengun and Amen if Jabari and Reed are still here, Houston is a big market and players would want to play here
If you want a number one guy it’s time to cash in! Just like the Rockets did with T-Mac for Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley. We don’t have a young superstar and if we land AJ and he’s the real deal we can’t put a roster around him to compete in the West full of teams with young stars, This trade gives Houston a clear cut direction,
The only organizations who can afford to think that way are the Lakers, Knicks, and maybe Heat. Houston is effectively a mid-market team, people overstate the draw that the city has to players. If you give up most of your draft capital and best two young players for the #1 pick, you have no way to build around him even if he lives up to expectations. And if he only ends up being around the same level player as Amen or Sengun (which is very possible, despite the hype), you've basically ruined your franchise's prospects for half a decade or more.
I would rather take the risk and trade for AJ than being stuck with 2 guys who can’t shoot and most likely would be 2nd or 3rd options, If Amen and Sengun are your main guys we’re going to be stuck for the next few years playing for the 5th seed and complaining about this teams direction. We’re eventually going to have to rebuild or retool in a year or 2. KD can be a great mentor for AJ in his first year.
I can understand some of the concerns that people have with Amen and Sengun. with Sengun having more experience in the league and being more limited by his physical profile I think that there is more of a justification to be concerned. Amen, I still feel like as a chance to be the best player on a good team and even a generational player. We didn’t do them a lot of favors this year and we played him too many minutes. I am a big believer in the jump shot so I think the form will come.. cashing in a bunch of assets to try to get a guy in this draft that we feel good about or a younger player in the NBA like we did many moons ago with Harden is fine, but I still think it’s way too early to give up on Thompson. not to mention the fact that all of these young guys are still continuing to improve, and even Sengun probably has another level or two. it is definitely a bummer that we didn’t end up with one of the two or three guys that will end up being generational, but it is where we are. I seriously doubt somebody like Brandon Miller is untouchable although I realize his trade value is pretty high. Sengun it’s on an amazing contract and has a lot of untapped potential inside of his skill set so I believe his trade value to also be high. we are not San Antonio or city but we are certainly not the Sacramento Kings either. adjust our coaching philosophy a bit and build around on Amen. frankly, I still think even Smith could end up having some seasons where he scored closer to 20 points the game with above average defense and rebounding. That would make him the third or fourth best player on a very good team. I understand the wrongness of our despair, but all is not lost.
KD for Myles, Rollins, Portis, and Jackson works on the trade machine. The Bucks must add their 10th pick in this upcoming draft. Rollins makes 4M a year, if the 10th pick player makes the same amount of money, then the Bucks can retain Rollins. Myles can replace Capela and Steven Adams. His presence can help Sengun a lot. Tari isn’t needed on the Rockets anymore. Take the BPA with the 10th pick, preferably a guard. My choice would be Cameron Carr. PS: Add one of the 2027 1st round picks to KD plus the 2 second round picks from this year’s draft in order to seal the deal.
Jaylen Brown for KD and a couple FRPs. Then extend Eason. FVV / Brown / Amen / Smith / Sengun Sheppard / Eason / DFS / Adams That core will make noise for a while.
I just don’t get the Amen hype, he’s a good player but how many times have we heard “ if this player develops a jumpshot they’ll be the best in the league” It’s only one player that developed a jump shot and that’s Jason Kidd. I don’t think Amen is better than Ben Simmons in his prime, I think we should package Sengun and Amen for a Superstar, I think Sengun is more likely to develop a jump shot than Amen
why not keep both around next season and find out? We aren’t contending so I don’t understand any rush to get rid of either player. My biggest concern is our terrible player development. Those guys will have to take that shooting leap in spite of our coaches/front office and lack of a proven player development system.
Cleveland in: Giannis, 29 Phx frp via Rockets Bucks in: Kevin Durant, Sengun, 27 Phx frp via Rockets Rockets in: Mobley Rollins AJ Green Dennis Schroeder Amen, Reed or Rollins, Tari, Jabari, Mobley FVV, Reed or Rollins, Schroeder, DFS, Adams, Capella Can play 4 out on offense and Mobley, Jabari can protect the rim. Adjust at the deadline or off-season.
Noise after being eliminated in the 1st round because Sengun gets bodied by some GLeague scrub, so spends all his time getting in Brown's way
Trading Sengun for Brown....same problem, different player. The problem is we need a CENTER who has length, who is a lob threat, block shots and hit a 15ft
