    I think the more important question is why would Iran make a deal that is 'good' for america?

    Iran knows, america is not going to win this war any time soon (see 20 years in Afghanistan which is half the size of iran in pop and land mass + less militarily tech), with a combination of international pressure, geographical difficulty of a land invasion and iran's own military capabilities, america needs a deal more than iran in the short term.
