What? Udoka has actually taken a team to the NBA Finals, a team by the way that was not expected to get that far. Atkinson, on the other hand, is about to get swept in the ECF with a team that is expected to get that far and has far more talent. To me it's not about whose the better coach. It's always been about who is most at fault for where the Rockets are now. I find it delusional that you think the Rockets young core are more talented than Steph Curry & Draymond Green. We lost that series because Jalen Green (Stone's highest draft pick) wasn't good enough.
This is peak delusional and your scapegoat Jalen Green wasn’t around to lose to Luke Kenard and Smart. you can post what you want, 90+% of the nba view Udoka as a clown
I mentioned this ad nauseum that the reason the Rockets offense has the issues it has is due to the fact that the two non shooters are starters and 2 of the Rockets top 3 players. One of the players (Sengun) is a main hub that the Rockets run their offense through. Detroit does not run their offense through Duren and Ausar is not a major offensive contributor. Ausar does not demand the ball in his hands and neither does Duren. That team is built on Cade Cunningham being a primary scorer and playmaker for that entire team. Cleveland did not run their offense through Jarret Allen as a main hub. okoro was not a major scorer or in the top 3 offensive players on that team. Mitchell, Mobley, and Garland were their big 3. Okoro shot 37% in 3s last year btw. And Merril has stepped up to fill Jerome’s role this year. Cavs roster also didn’t have Ball in 24-25 so his lack of involvement in 25-26 is irrelevant. Also How is Atkinson winning at his worst somehow compared to Udoka winning at his best when Udoka has an injury laden team? Udoka “at his worst” tied his record in 24-25 that had a fully healthy team. Also Atkinson has a more talented team with more scorers and shooters the past 2 years. And if you want to go back in time and compare records (which should not be a sole indicator of coaching ability) then Udoka’s best would be a 56 win season in 21-22. Atkinson’s worst would technically be 20-62. And again Atkinson had the number 1 seed in 24-25 and lost in the first round.
I put the onus on Stone, his management team and the Rockets’ ownership. We don’t know what ownership demands behind the scenes. We do know the Sheppard draft and the questionable signing of DFS and no vet backup plan hurt this team. We also know them forcing Sengun into this team and literally building a whole playing style to fit his skills hurt this team. But I also blame the players for not being better and underachieving. Stone still didn’t make Sheppard lose the ball game 3. He didn’t tell Smith to throw the ball away a few seconds before that. He also didn’t tell Smith, Sheppard, DFS, Tari, Okogie to miss all those 3s in the reg season and post season.
If your offense starts with Alpren Sengun catching the ball outside the 3 point line - You are a moron. If your best offensive idea is point KD .... you have a screw or two loose. If you run 5 forwards out there and only two of them can shoot and none of them can dribble .... you are an idiot. Udoka sucks.
This situation with Udoka reminds me of how Kings fans hated on Mike Brown. Tonight there is major regret among that fanbase and a recognition that Mike Brown wasn't the issue, the roster was, and that firing him was a mistake.
Let’s explore this. Sengun’s strength is one on one play. He can beat other centers, 4’s off the dribble and post smaller guards from the perimeter. That’s why they play him this way. He’s not always on the perimeter as he posts low or high or plays screen and short roll with Durant because our pg’s can’t play screen and roll. What options did the coaching staff have? Sheppard makes tons of mistakes and so did Amen as the point. We didn’t play Holliday and forced Sheppard to develop by letting him play a lot of minutes and had no vet to replace fred. As the season went on and Durant kept having issues we trusted Sheppard and Amen more and let them handle more. When have the Rockets played 5 forwards? When has Amen or Sheppard not been a part of a 5 man lineup? https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610...onal?SeasonType=Regular+Season&PerMode=Totals
The Trade for Harden was STUPID, Cleveland was better with Garland. Harden is washed up, he and Mitchell don't play well together, they take turns going ISO and freezing the other one out. DD
yep. I just want to see Sengun off the team. Like the guy but we just can’t win with this system with him as a hub. Let’s get a team that doesn’t run a slowed down offense through a guy that can’t shoot outside the paint and poor defender that makes a lot of mental mistakes on both ends.
Will you hold that one Finals appearance to his credit until the End of Days? He was also one of the only ones that screwed a Staffer's wife while going to the Finals.
Well, yeah, if Udoka somehow takes the Kings to a 3rd Seed next year, I am with you. (with only Fox and Sabonis) Almost no organization is worse than the Kings.....Rockets are not comparable. Mike Brown is adaptable much like MDA was to an extent, Udoka has the team adapt to himself. That is the whole deal and difference. Who else can make a 6'1 guard his superstar......
Who cares about screwing a staffer’s wife? Why do you and people on here hold that against him to the “end of days”? Old news. Also he was the only one reported. Who knows what jj reddick or daigneault does in their private lives? Who cares? Can the guy get the job done or not and what has management and ownership done to help him
Disagree with this narrative and quite frankly don’t get the narrative. When he took over he realized Sengun had good one on one ability and could pass so he made Sengun the offensive hub unlike Silas. Many fans cheered this on. This isn’t “his way” or him making the team adapt to him. He simply used the talents and strengths of his best player at the time and designed an offense based on this. Honest question. What do you think Daigneault or the Spurs coach or mike Malone or Mazzula or Nick Nurse or insert any good coach in here would do with Sengun? Do you honestly think they wouldn’t do the same and exploit his strengths? Do you not think they wouldn’t post him or iso him in those spots? Or do they put him as a third or fourth option and prioritize guard play and durant? How would they play him any different
Notice the only person who liked your post is A time to chill the other Udoka fanboy here. You need to stop with the cope and goal post moving. What does Sengun being a playmaker have to do with the offense being bad? You said the offense was bad because the Rockets have 2 starters who are non shooters. Pistons and Cavs had two starters who are non shooters. Why does the offense not running thru them matter? BTW Jalen Duren had a usage of 23.6% while Sengun had a usage of 26.6%. So you are wrong the offense does run thru Duren he was the second option since his possessions are only 3% lower than Sengun. Ball was supposed to be the replacement for Ty Jerome who was their Steven Adams last year. Finally the Wolves also have 2 non shooters in Gobert and Jaden Mcdaniels and also run the offense thru Julius Randle who shot 31%, just 1% better than Sengun's 30.5%. How come Wolves still had a better offense than the Rockets? Whats the excuse now?
The two Udoka fanboys against the world lol you do realize the only ones who like your posts are each other? Thats because your takes are clearly so biased nobody but the other Udoka fanboy agreed with you. Mike Brown is an offensive guru and nobody but the Kings said he was the problem. Meanwhile
Stone may or may not be fired after but Udoka is clearly problem 1. If you disagree you are just an Udoka fanboy which you are.
GSW was 7th seed and also lost Jimmy Butler, if GSW was so much more talented how come they were only 7th seed? And again, they lost Butler while the Rox were healthy. Jalen Green wasnt good enough but that is also due to the lacking development of Udokas team who doesnt know how to develop or give any player a bag. If Udoka is a good coach there should have been a rookie who blew up and expanded their game under Udoka. All our young guys still have the same strength and weakness 4 yrs after Udoka. If only one guy has flatlined then yeah Stone drafted wrong but 7 guys drafted in 4 yrs nobody has become significantly better? Meanwhile OKC taking nobodies like AJ Mitchell and turning them into semi stars. Even guys like Caruso, Isiah Joe and Mccain were given up on by their former teams blow up on OKC. Its because their player Development is S+ while Udoka has BS himself Ben Sullivan.
