Castle is a better defender than Reed, no doubt, Reed is a better shooter than Castle - no doubt.

The Rox need more shooting than defending.

Why do people pretend that castle would even be better than amen here?

    insanity

You can’t project the player development of the best organization at that…onto the one that is the worst. Even Wemby wouldn’t be this good here

For the Rockets, Reed - 100 out of 100 - we already have a Castle in Amen.

We don't need more D, we need guys that can score.

Not surprising your whole argument is based on ass-umptions, blaming everything but the actual player.

I’ve made my piece with the likelihood that Reed may not live up to his #3 pick status, and that’s primarily because of his size and lack of great handles. I just don’t believe undersized guards without great handles are starting caliber plsyers, let alone stars. But folks have to acknowledge that Reed still has very little nba experience, he was a raw prospect when he was drafted, it does usually take smaller guards a couple seasons to develop, and he did make a lot of progress from yr 1-2. Finishing the season at 39% 3pt is promising. And 1.5 steals per 26 minutes tells me there’s a real chance he can become an elite turnover creator. So we’ve got the possibility of elite shooting and elite turnover creation, which is promising.

Next season if Reed can take a big step forward with his ball handling, and improve the shooting consistency, I think that will be a really good sign. I think u give Reed another season to hit that mark.

i would add to that that he needs to learn how to draw a charge... that would really help his defensive limitations...

i like his steals... but the downside is that he will randomly abandon his defensive assignment to go swat at the ball from behind of somebody else's man... idk where the numbers come out on the risk vs reward from him doing this...

I agree he has a lot to work on. I would also include his mindset. It seems to change how he plays.
Year 1 -- reportedly dominant in training camp. In real games, too scared/deferential to shoot.
Year 2 -- Amen had to joke he'd punch him if he turned down another open shot. But overall a huge and positive change.

More than most players, he seems to be conscious of his standing in the team and wants to be a good teammate. Possibly to the detriment of himself and the team. An 'opposite Cam Thomas'. If he makes a leap, I believe it will also be due to him feeling mentally comfortable and secure.

    Sheppard shot in playoffs:
27% 5-18 on open shots defender 4-6 ft
34% 10-29 wide open shots defender greater than 6ft

    reg season
    32% 63-197 open shots def 4-6ft

no he likely would not fare any better with Wemby.
