I would offer that Reed’s lob passes are borderline elite.

It'd be interesting to know if the Spurs would take Reed over Castle if they had the 3rd pick.

I seem to remember there being reports to that effect, but it's always hard to know what is real and what is a smokescreen when it comes to draft rumors.

    Do over ? No way.

there’s a chance he may have been better for them but they managed to turn castle into close to an ideal fit

it’s like I said, spurs dev is goat

His fit with wemby is so ungodly good, that's why i'm so happy they didn't get him. Even on defense, while he's overall way worse than Castle, he blocks over triple the shots and gets almost double the steals, while his weakness on defense would be basically irrelevant with wemby behind him. You also have teams put their centers on castle, which would never happen with reed obviously.

No one is a bigger Reed homer than me. But he had a hard time beating centers like Hayes off the dribble. It’s not hard to do and I hope he works on that this summer. He needs to start playing like Brunson and use that off arm.

They put the center on Castle not to actually guard him, but to leave him open so the center can help on Wemby. Reed wouldn't be trying to beat the center in that situation, he would be standing WIDE open at the 3 point line all game (if a team tried to guard him that way, obviously they wouldn't).

reeds main issue is sometimes he just needs to grow a pair and say **** it who cares

he is a good teammate and looks for others first, but he needs to be more Type A

I think he will once his skills catches up to his talent. I’m not fooled by that aw shucks persona that he plays up.

Do over now, they'd probably would pick Castle because they had molded him to fit well. But at that time, they had no way to know if Castle could improve his shooting. With Wemby, they needed shooting more than perimeter defense.

But if the Spurs was going to take BPA rather than fit, then it'd be hard to know who they'd value more overall.

Honestly, while this version of Castle looks like a better fit than the rookie one, I'm still not sure making that swap really fixes much for our team. I don't see #1 option potential with Castle. (Not that Reed has that either.) It just gives us another very good but not great player, who still doesn't address our lack of high-volume 3P shooting or our generally poor roster construction. Would I trade them 1-for-1? Maybe, just because Castle has become a better trade asset. But I also don't know how much sleep I'm losing about missing on Castle at this point.

I do think a dynamic young scoring guard who can handle the ball and playmake would help this team a lot, but I think he also has to be a high-volume 3P shooter. We're talking Maxey, Haliburton, not Castle. And I don't know how we get a guy at that level.

Considering he has a football background, he sure doesn’t like contact.

They absolutely wouldve especially with Fox coming in. Made zero sense to take Castle.

The Spurs will have a hard decision to make when its time to extend him.

I cannot believe Castle is this good. He has already surpassed his perceived ceiling. He looks like a franchise player

He's way smaller and less tank-like than Brunson, and honestly, than most NBA players. He'd probably like contact a bit more if he had another 15lbs of muscle. Whether he can get there, who knows.

He needs to get on the Dwyane Wade summer routine.

only way he’s going to pan out is if he puts on a lot of muscle while keeping his existing mobility
