It was good... not great. Some really good fatalities. Sounds like a weird complaint, but the music really sucked and altered the vibe a bit. They went with more of an orchestral, Lord of the Rings, type of score, when I was hoping for some Eurotrash 90s electronic jams or some electronic metal.
I liked it better than the 2021 movie. A cinematic masterpiece it is not, but I was not expecting anything near that. It is mortal Kombat in movie form. A loose story based on game lore with bloody fights and campy gratuitous fatalities. If you like the games and know what you are getting you should be entertained. They did not focus much on what people disliked about the first one (characters not associated with the games and the Arcana story) and focused on what people want, fatalities, fighting and Johnny Cage being Johnny Cage. Saying that, I thought Carl Urban was excellent. My wife loved it and has played less than 3 minutes of the games.
This and the first one for me were pretty even (but it has been a while since I have seen that one). Annihilation was trash so it was better than that one for sure.
