Yeah, Harper is going to be damn good. They definitely win 54 or so without him. Besides having Wemby, the Spurs are just a great organization. (unlike what we've been reduced to) smh It hurts my heart, Bro.
Last checked, Vassall is like 25, one year older than Jalen Green and Keldon Johnson 26.... Ridiculous.
This is exactly the direction we need to go. We won’t be able to accomplish it in one off-season. We should trade KD if we can without bringing back bad contracts. Shop Sengun, but don’t panic trade him. If you can get a solid return go ahead and pull the trigger. All this is moot, if Stone and Ime are stubborn and believe that another year with aging FVV, Adams, and Durant moves the needle forward. Asking Amen to be a two-way player when his offense consists of handing the ball to Durant or Sengun or standing in the corner waiting to cut has already wasted one year of his development. Getting older with Giannis or Harden is a waste of time and will push us out even further from competing for anything substantial. The 27 picks should be held onto unless they can somehow help you secure a youngish upcoming star or a top 3 pick in this draft.
Tearing down a team is the easy part. We will probably do some strategic step back this summer and trade one or both of KD/Sengun, competently. Ime will be here one more year at least, and Stone/Patrick Fertitta probably indefinitely in some form or other, with prob some other basketball leadership mind thrown in at some point. Fine. The actual hard question everyone avoids is: who is the next guy that we build around? What under 25 player out there, in the league or in the draft, is a franchise player in waiting? Can’t be an upcoming high lottery pick or an untouchable young player, because those are not practically acquirable. Even if Sam Presti were running things, that is THE core question. He can’t just waive a magic wand and that guy appears. Everything else doesn’t really matter. Following Rockets basketball will feel like it does now until that guy is found. Like, who do YOU think it is?
Amen with a shot. If not, who knows, guys surprise all the time. Nobody saw SGA coming. Jokic was a second round pick. Nobody saw JDub coming either. Cade wasn’t sh*t for the first couple of years. The Rockets absolutely should shop KD and Sengun, but gutting the team for an aging veteran or just out of panic would set this team back for much longer than just being patient.
They will run it back with a new backup PG and call it an offseason. They have assets needed to do a soft rebuild next offseason if it gets worse.
I agree this is what they are going to do and I prefer it to breaking the bank for an aging veteran or two.
Yes, this is precisely my point. Swap out Ime for Erik Spoelstra. Swap out Rafael Stone for Sam Presti. Swap out Fertitta for whoever you think the best owner is. Rockets basketball will still feel essentially the same, in a deep frustrating rut, until we find that young franchise north star guy. At any given moment in the NBA, there are roughly 1-2 realistically acquirable young players or draft prospects who aren't known to be yet but will go on to be HoF level franchise players (i.e., they aren't high lottery picks and are not untouchable pieces for their teams yet). Shai was that. Jokic, Brunson, Maxey too. And before that Harden, Giannis, Kawhi, Booker etc. So IMO the conversation that matters is "who are those players, now?". There are almost certainly a couple of them out there for us, and they are the actual thing that moves the needle.
You think Spoelstra and Presti are leaving their respective positions (and give up on everything they've build there) to come to the Rockets? How do you "swap out" the owner?? We might as well swap out the fan base for one that has more realistic expectations.
Blood Clot is life threatening, whenever Victor is running up and down the court. Victor has to be checked and he must be on blood thinners.
Cuban sells team GM makes disastrous franchise-altering trade (but NBA immediately makes it up to them) GM gets fired; new GM/revamped front office New GM fires the coach, even though coach just got extended Meanwhile, our GM is publicly saying “it’s just not our year” and fake tough guy coach is calling our players p*****s. And after 6 years, the best thing to show for is a 38 year old, 33 year old and a 32 year old. Can’t even get an “offensive coordinator” or changes to the coaching staff in here. It is rotten from the owner, to his son, to the GM, to the coach & his AAU buddies, to the players/personnel, to the player development. @LosPollosHermanos “But here, look at these shiny, new (maybe throwback K&M) uniforms! And Fred!”
Just have to pray harder for Wemby..... Lol....... Mr. Smiley Face when Boss is around. ....... .......
He’s on the right track. Ujiri should have gotten max money from this franchise. He brought a ring to Toronto…****ing Toronto so many people including myself have been in denial
I view getting KD as much of a move to get out from under JG and get something of value as it was to improve the team.
VJ Edgecombe is a guy I have my eye on now that Morey is out the door and Philly is looking to make major changes. They have some really bad money they can send us, and they already have a guy in Maxey who looks maybe-possibly credible as a #1 option. I have Edgecombe as a major breakout candidate the next two seasons.
They should have immediately flipped KD for a 2026 pick and a young stud. He is not a role model other than how to practice. With regards to the future of the franchise, Amen is as close to a Franchise player as there is but he's no Shai, Wemby, Flagg or Cunningham. He will always be a tier below them. Those guys have far superior scoring ability that will provide a greater influence on winning than what Amen provides. Like everyone else, I agree, still no player to build around yet on this roster.
this seems like the most likely outcome. Unfortunately it means missing out on this draft and wasting another season of KD. But I’m resigned to this approach for next season. I guess we have a new regime to look forward to next offseason.
