Stephen Castles weak link was his outside shooting, well in year 2 he already improved to slightly below average on decent volume (33%) Not great but not Thompson Twin level.

Sheppard meanwhile will always be the first guy opposing teams target for his entire career.

I honestly don't know why Stonetitta decided this guy was Steph Curry 2.0. I don't even know if Steph Curry would be Steph Curry in this era rather than 10 years ago given that the game has gotten even more demanding.

This is one case where listening to Ime DefenseOnlydoka would have worked out (Same with Mobley though Ime was in Boston then)

Coming off a game where Castle was the ONLY thing keeping OKC in the game with his 11 turnovers and being hunted on defense giving up the last 4 points to force OT and morons in here are still blowing him?

Lol, you guys are exactly what I thought you were.

Only time will tell but at the moment it’s gotta be Green over Mobley, considering we’ve already traded Green and Jalen hasn’t made much improvement along with dealing with injuries, while Mobley’s still with the team that drafted him, has been an all-star, All-NBA, and All-Defensive player along with winning DPOY. At least with Reed he’s only in year 2 with this past season basically being his rookie season in terms of “PT” and has shown some promise if he can improve his ball handling and become a better defender

    Jesus, Chicken Little's everywhere.

Reed would be so good with Wemby......Castle would struggle in Houston.

It is about fit and chemistry, we don't have it yet, they do.

We can get it, just got to shake the chairs up a bit until they all fit around the table.

Mobley was the bigger miss even if Castle ends up being better than Reed. Reed has a lot of limitations.

    Mobley is a difference maker.

Ultimately neither of those picks being switched would make the Rockets title contenders right now. The league stepping in to make sure we couldn't get Victor is the biggest setback.

This is a throwaway comment - Wemby is the best player since LeBron, he is one of the most impactful players to ever be on the court. EVERY SINGLE PLAYER (except for maybe a pure center like Gobert) would be either better or substantially better with Wembanyama behind them.

Anyway, the Rockets don't have Wemby, they drafted him to play with Sengun - who cannot be on teh court defensively with Reed.

They picked Reed to complement Sengun's lack of shooting, not realizing that his lack of defense makes them bad fits on the other end. Though, he's not really a good fit with Sengun's offensive game either. But I put most of htat on Sengun being more limited than people realize than Reed.

    That's on the GM staff.

Mobley is a bigger miss (unless Castle becomes elite offensively) simply becuase he's bigger. Like I said though, the flaws of Reed were obvious on day 1 (too small, can't guard at NBA level) to even the unpracticed eye.

Unfortunately, I fear you are correct.

Rockets seem to be headed for the treadmill of mediocrity where they'll spend the next 5-8 years being good enough for 1st and 2nd round exits, but will never be more than a minor inconvenience for OKC or SA, or any team that drafts and develops more intentionally than the current Rockets coaching staff and front office are capable of.

$100 says the Rockets will make a western conference finals one of those years, and then fans will be talking about how it was almost our year the way they talk about the Harden team that challenged, but failed to defeat, the peak dynasty Warriors.

I'm kind of hanging here with a bit of a hangover from this season, but I don't really plan on watching next year. I don't need to go through another 82 games of ups and downs knowing full well that Ime is going to get outcoached come playoff time.

    You’re ignoring the root issue.
STONE & his staff are only decent at scouting and poor at player development. So who knows how Mobley & Castle would look with our organization and coaching staff.

Amen is doing good DESPITE our poor player development.

I would argue Cade, Banchero, and even Wemby wouldn’t look as good as they look if we drafted them because we don’t seem to have a good environment for player development.

Agree on Cade and Banchero. A healthy Wemby would be great anywhere. Also, Banchero sucks especially for the money.

    Facts
I already see Rockets aren’t going to really even do major moves on top of seeing how good SA & OKC is.

This is the Bill O’Brien & Easterbay version of the Rockets and your literally wasting your time & energy watching them until the owner finally gets the hint after losing money and then he decides to clean house and make the moves fans & media has been asking them to do the last 4-5 years.

With Ime rotations & stone philosophy , they would hinder Wemby more than help him.
We know this because we literally have Wemby’s predecessor in KD and look how he looked.

Yes Wemby talent would be there, but we’re so dumb we would find a way to make him look worse than he is.

it would be like watching Jordan, Kobe, Iverson or what we actually saw which is KD double and tripled team every night.
They would figure out a way, but you’re basically hindering them from excelling to their best potential.

As much as I’m out on Sengun I do also think it’s our organization that’s making him look worse than he actually is.

Ime sucks but Wemby is so good ir doesn't matter. Mitch Johnson, Ime Udoka, Greg Popovich - literally none of it matters when you have a revolutionary basketball player like Wemby.

We already know what kind of player Green is.

Too early to tell what Reed will be.

Easily Green over Mobley. The other one wasn't a miss.

A smarter organization would have him taking 3-4 wide open threes a game even if he sucks at them. He's flashed it often enough that I feel fairly confident at some point he will be a passable 3P shooter. I fear we're going to end up trading him and he will break out as a shooter somewhere else, and will be much easier to fit onto a team because then you just have to compensate for him on defense, not on both ends of the court.
