Teams have to fill out cap space. They are required to do so under the collective bargaining agreement. A rebuilding team would much rather do that by paying a young guy with elite physical tools where you can at least dream on him having a major breakout season, even if the odds are low, than by paying veterans who are finished products. That's why Amen will get offered far more money than Jabari's contract if he makes his way to free agency. I wouldn't even be shocked to see him get offered the max, especially if he improves at all next season. And those are the same reasons we should hold onto him even if it's an overpay: We are still a rebuilding team.

And I actually do agree that I don't think a team will offer a top 5 pick in this draft for him, but that's still my bar. I need somebody coming back where there's a real shot at him being a #1 player, otherwise I'm just keeping our good young players who still have untapped potential and running it back until we draft or develop "that guy" ourselves. Now, for Amen's next contract after this upcoming one, that would be a different story because he will already be a finished product then. If he hasn't had a major breakout and the cost is too high of course you just move on.

in my opinion that would instantly make Amen a negative asset.

there will be a dumb team out there more than willing to pay Amen major money…possibly even a max

When do all the contracts on the Kings expire? Because they’re a desperate team I could see for sure going big after Amen

Bulls just got new leadership, so I’m not sure about them any more. But before that, they were another one in my mind.

    Nets as well

I could even see the Pelicans

I do think it's HILARIOUS how all of a sudden the thing I said 3-4 weeks ago is the standard opinion of most NBA pundits whilst I was being cussed out to all oblivion by Amen's stans for even DARING to suggest Amen's not an instant guaranteed max player...Yeah I'M the one who "doesn't know ball"

I actually tend to believe that we will re-sign him this off-season and that he will give us a little bit of a discount. I think he sees what Smith and Sengun have done and will want to lean into that.

maybe extending him for four seasons after this one with a player option after 29/30. Im fine with 35 per year.

Who do you listen to? Everyone i listen to has been banging the drum that Amen on a max is a bad idea for the last year.

I think you misread my post that you quoted. I never said the pundits had a go at me for it, I said I had that opinion and AMEN'S STANS ON CLUTCHFANS ATTACKED ME FOR IT. (I put it in block capitals so it's easier to read.)

His value is 40. Should get him at that.

But if the rockets some how get him for a steal because he likes being
    here, then rockets be lucky.

The leak could be damage control. Either the GM himself or the reporters with sources kept parroting that FO is high on him. Repeating over and over the last two years that at this point if true, the FO looked a little silly. Amen is not a bad player but kept saying someone is rookie max type of player when he’s not, ruins the credibility whomever kept saying it. Can be positive on someone without overhyping.

the signaling has been so strong and consistent that fans became worried on a potential Stone will overpay. This year growth and round 1 flame out. If the excuse is other players injured, and not available, then reserve some money for those other players.

Give Amen the Sengun contract. Maybe a few cents more if it appeases the Amenlytes.

I think thats a good bench adding those players. Ty Jerome, Marvin, T Hardaway, Shamet, and Resigning Okogie, Eason.

That is a way better bench, adds much needed shooting.
Seems like these vets could be had, would want to be part of a winning team, that is getting
its players back from injury after ok season. But failed in playoffs due to injuries..

But all this based on moving Capela, DFS, and future picks to Memphis in trade for Jerome and Cap space
FVV opening up cap space for the rest of the vet signings
Getting Eason to resign based on the first 2 moves.

Rockets probably cant construct all this, but it would be the right direction.

Anyone see that Cavs-Pistons game 7? Let's say that Ausar Thompson is the best perimeter defender in the entire NBA. But what does that matter if his team loses a game 7 by 30 at home? Perimeter defense is useful, but less so than rim protection and much less than shot creation and shot making.

The Thompson twins are not difference makers, and least not when it counts. Sure, they can muscle and hustle their way through games against mediocre teams over a long season, but at best they'd be bench players on a contending team. Smart teams would not pay more than MLE money for either of them.

Amen Thompson should be 4 years $160 - $170 million.

    Jabari Smith similar Contract

Too robotic in his jumpshot. His lack of creativity in dribbling, no left hand dribble.

Alperen Sengun getting all the blame is ridiculous.

Amen Thompson for 2 seasons has not improved in his dribbling and shooting. There should be a huge concern.
Last Playoffs and This Playoffs Amen Thompson still hasn't improved in shooting and hasn't taken over in scoring. He has no scoring dog in him to take over games.
