Morey is a nobody if not for the Harden trade

the Adelman teams lost in the 2nd round one year and did nothing every other year…a ton of GMs have had a stretch like that

this man was offering poison pills to Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik in free agency until Presti threw him the lifeline of the century

Harden was the type of player who could have whatever roster surrounding him and still guarantee a playoff berth and most years 50+ wins (12-13, 16-17, and 18-19 seasons for example)

became insistent on his threes/layups/free throws philosophy to an absurd degree, and Harden was able to make it work like no other player in the league…but in the playoffs, the threes always dried up and the free throws decreased

had a top 5 player/MVP for almost a decade, and only one season did he have a legitimate title contender…Nico Harrison did no different in Dallas before trading Luka

and Morey is straight up washed now

I never said he was a bad GM. I said he’s an overrated GM. He is. Two Conferences Finals appearances over nearly a decade with a top 3 player is unacceptable. His performance with the Sixers was unacceptable, hence why they fired him. And yet, despite this, he has a contingent of weirdly obsessed fans, such as yourself.

It's so funny to me when DOFs claim he is great because he was not "allowed to tank" when he was GM. Well, he had his opportunity to build a team through tanking - instead, he chickened out, opting instead to be a GM of a team he figured he would have to tweak rather than build, and he exited in the most cowardly way possible.

Morey is a good GM...one thing I really liked about him was his commitment to winning. He wanted to win and took risks. I did not like the way Stone punted this year because FVV and Adams were out.

Draft wise he was ok. Notable picks....Parsons, Hartenstein, Capela. Looking back, he had some not so great picks.

Trades: He was really good earlier on when it came to trades but was limited as the league started hiring more competent GMs. Trades which made good impacts....Scola, Battier, K-Mart, Harden, Paul, Ariza and more.

Signings: I think Bosh was the biggest what if which never happened. Dwight Howard was his biggest signing. Eric Gordon was an impactful sign as well. Can't think of anyone else how made major differences.

He drafted Hartenstein but waived him for nothing to open up a roster spot for David Nwaba, who wasn’t even healthy at the time.

Ariza was a great signing that was somewhat criticized after completely fumbling declining Parson's option and wound up being a better player than Parsons. PJ Tucker was a great signing as well. Mbah a Moute was a great signing and him wrecking his shoulder at the end of the season probably cost us a title, though that one fell in his lap because of CP3.

I’m good with treating Tate and Holiday as a one night stand. Maybe two nights with uncle Jeff. I can’t even look at you Clint.

For the Rockets, I think both Daryl and current Rockets owners have moved on.

One interesting pairing, where money is not handcuffed is the Clippers. Daryl is an upgrade over Lawerence Frank, with Balmer's deep pockets, I can see Daryl flourish over there. Think Frank inked a deal not too long ago, but if they are rebuilding after Kawhi, Morey might do well over there.

Daryl wouldn't be forced to move a McCain-type of player, because the owner was trying to duck the lux tax.

IIRC, Hartenstein waved for luxury tax savings.

One thing I think Morey is right about: coaching is far less important than team building. Atkinson is an outstanding coach. But Bickerstaff must feel pretty vindicated right now. We need a GM who can actually build a good team. I’m out on Ime, but I actually think Stone is the bigger problem.

how when Atkinson hasn’t been a consistent coach his entire career. Had one good year in BK then inherited a good team. Had good first year record wise then lost to 4 seed. Then lost 12 more games this year in reg season compared to last and got bounced again in the first round. I don’t get why this is considered good or outstanding.
