And he got him late in the draft. We haven’t hit on a later 1st rounder or 2nd rounder in the Stone era.
Damn, time flies. I remember when Daryl was the “whiz kid” and now he looks like he could be Brendan Gleeson’s brother.
Anyway, Morey still hasn’t “finished the hat.” Would be quite a story to come back and finally put together that championship team.
Can you really build around Maxey? He’s not even a top 15 player Sixers record with Maxey and no Embiid the past 3 seasons is just 42-63, and Maxey has averaged 27, 3, and 6 on 44/34/88 splits and 55% TS taking 22 shots a game Sixers record with Maxey and Embiid is 59-28 the last 3 seasons and Maxey averages 27, 4, and 7 on 47/39/88 splits and 61% TS you can’t build around Maxey, he’s an Embiid merchant
? He is a known streaky player, undersized 2 who plays zero defense. Moves no needle. Terrible in this year’s playoffs and shot .186 in threes against Knicks in playoffs. Enough said
you can compare because morey had a much harder task and still did better. what more do you need to know? he was by any objective account one of the best GMs when you look at what he was able to achieve given what he had. if all you look at is championships, then you are evaluating GMs the way a 5th grader would
he hasn't sniffed a championship? do you follow the rockets at all? if CP3 doesnt hurt his hamstring, Morey not only has a ring, but he gets it against the greatest team of all time.
you clearly didnt follow his moves as GM. He was unquestionably a top 5 GM. I am going to assume you are just young and dont know what youre talking about. you probably grew up knowing only Morey and have nothing to compare to. Some of us remember Dawson. and you will truly see what a bad GM is with Stone if you havent already. to some of it, Stones incompetence was obvious on day 1. some like you will just have to live through mistake after mistake before you realize how much better we had it before.
How is inheriting a team with Yao and Macgrady more difficult than Stone’s task of rebuilding from nothing? All Morey did (with Stone involved in the process) was trade for Harden and kept trying to pair him up with a star while surrendering draft picks and surrounding them with inferior role players. Please come up with a better argument you dumb shi+head
Ya you're right 47% from 2 and 37% from 3 sure is streaky shooting. I love when people let a few game paint their picture of a player. How about the Boston series? Even Boston homer Bill Simmons said Maxey was the best player on the court for the entire series. Most of the people around the NBA recognizes him as the fute of the 76ers and one of the NBAs best young players. Like I said Houston doesn't have a building piece. Morey drafted one for Philadelphia.
The stats you cite don’t preclude the fact that he’s streaky or doesn’t play defense. Bill Simmons opinion never matters to me. Who’s most people? What has Maxey done given the opportunity when Embiid was down? What team has he led? Couldn’t beat the Knicks in consecutive years and folded both times in critical must win games. There’s more to basketball than just scoring.
I'm not some Morey Only Fan, however, you are underrating him now. His shortcomings were always the lack of value in chemistry and treating his role players as if they were just some one night stand. He had a heavy hand in helping build the Adelman teams: Flipped Donte Green for Ron Artest Traded Greek Tmac for Scola Drafted Carl Landry, signed him to a cheap deal after 1st contract expired. Traded for Kyle Lowry Traded for Goran Dragic Flipped injured T-mac for Kevin Martin He also did well building around Harden. Yes, Harden's gravity is what sucked in the superstars, but he still had to build a team around him. So he did a great job in Houston, the issue was always catering to the superstars in some ungodly level and being obsessed with chasing that elusive third star.
