If we can get something for FVV and Adams, we should trade them. If we can dump them for cap space maybe at the deadline then do it. They serve no purpose other than to prop up regular season wins and delay development of younger players. If Ime has FVV he will play him an obnoxious number of minutes to a bottom five PG in the league his last year before the injury, Adams is not as much of a concern, but paying him near MLE money for the next 2 years, given his injury risk seems silly to me. It’s water under the bridge, but they should’ve just re-signed the Aussie.

I just figure u can’t get much for either. Adams is going to play sparingly; he’s not gonna adversely affect the development of anyone. Honestly who is giving up any value for him? It’s a non-issue to me. Fred will need to prove he’s healthy to have any trade value. Sure if we can get a meaningful asset for him at the deadline, do it. But I don’t see us getting anything of value for Fred. I just think it’s better to have him working with the young guys and let his contract expire.

mainly I want to do everything we can to get to #5 or # 6 in this draft. One of those guards is going to be a stud. We just have to get the pick right. This is our chance to take a real swing. And frankly we need it. Nothing we do matters as much to me as taking a swing in this draft.

I know the data on FVV his last year but I think he was better than the 5th worst PG in the league. That being said, I do want the majority of the ball handling minutes going to Amen/Reed or if we were to believe in and chase down one of these rookie PGs.

5 months to the regular season. Here is my, stepping back to step forward plan based around building around Amen.

Keep Smith and Reed as players that fit will with Amen. Adams (while he cannot shoot) sets great screens, is a good leader and is tall and strong enough to have a solid defensive impact. Keep him as the other "non-shooter" on in the rotation. He can be the veteran leader and bring in Uncle Jeff to fill the 15th spot.

Match whatever offer Tari gets up to 25 Million. Team option in year 3, player option in year 4.

    Trade
    -Durant
    -Sengun
    -Capela
    -DFS
    -FVV

This group of players offers flexible contracts, some rotational impact and the ability to make a "contender" out of someone. As well as trading Sengun to a team looking for someone to build around. Not as a Batman but as a building block.

Durant to Minnesota for Naz Reid, Dante DiVincenzo (out for year), Joan Beringer and Terrance Shannon.

Sengun, Capela and FVV to Miami for Herro (agrees if he were to agree to an extension), Ware, Jovic (Miami may see this as a bad contract), Davion Mitchell (also agrees to extension).

-DFS to whomever for a couple 2nd rounders.

    Ware/Reid/Adams
    Smith/Jovic
    Eason/Shannon
    Herro/Reed
    Amen/Mitchell

Maybe I am a fool but I would like to give a fully healthy group the chance to compete together. Get some proper bench depth and let's give this one more go. Opportunity cost is low anyways - after that LA series, many of these young guys' values aren't at their highest.

    Some targets I like:
Guards - Melton, Bub Carrington, Ty Jerome or Scotty Pippen Jr.
Forwards - Jaylon Tyson, Max Strus, Saddiq Bey, Naji Marshall, Middleton
Bigs - Dayron Sharpe, BBall Paul, Gafford, Timelord

Of this group, I see the most opportunity with teams on different timelines than us and Jerome/Sharpe in particular jump out as advanced stats darlings

You can use some combination of late picks, Capela, Davison, and a SnT one of the vets (Tate, Green, Holiday) or DFS to get them. I also like Middleton as a target with our taxpayer MLE as our garbage's man's version of KD

    Lineup:
    Sengun/Adams
    Jabari/Sharpe
    KD/Tari/Middleton
    Amen/Reed
    FVV/Jerome or Pippen

Lakers need a center right. Sign and trade Adams and Capela for LeBron.

    Amen
    LeBron
    KD
    Jabari
    Sengun

I just don’t understand how one can forecast that Adams, KD, and FVV stay healthy. And even then, assuming Adams and Fred are any good coming off injury, we are still not a contending team. That’s why I don’t want to run it back.

I'm pretty sure they will run it back, look good in the regular season but get kock slapped by Lakers or Twolves in the first rd. Even as 3rd seed.

I'm hoping for a soft reset but expecting an all-in move.

We can soft reset as long as stone keeps 2027 picks and we prey that suns and nets have middle of the pack seasons and we get two top five picks

I like the end product, but I don’t think either Minnesota or Miami is going to play ball. Shannon and Reid is too heavy a price for Durant. Miami already has Adebayo so I don’t think they be interested in Sengun. If Miami strikes out on Giannis you might be able to arrange something for Durant, but I’m not sure they include Ware. It’s going to take our draft assets, KD, and/or Sengun to do anything substantial this off-season and I’m afraid Giannis might still be in the mix. About the only team other than the Rockets, that actually might want Giannis and has the draft capital is Portland.

I'm fine with trading KD if one is willing to rebuild. Getting whatever pick one can for KD makes perfect sense. Keeping KD will likely not lead to the Rockets winning a championship by himself. Trading KD will likely not lead the Rockets to winning a championship without changes to Amen, Sengun, and Reed.

To me, what happens regarding the development or trading of Amen, Sengun, and Reed matters a lot more to me than trading or not trading KD.

I will laugh if KD is traded and basically brings the Rockets back to where they were regarding future assets a year ago.

Granted, I like to keep options open, and I see trading KD as cutting off a lot of options besides rebuilding.

I'd say blowing up the team (trading at least one of Amen, Sengun, and Reed) increases odds at the number 1 pick by 8% and pushes the value the Rockets get for whoever the Rockets traded in a year they will be trying to win. Amen and Sengun are win-now players. They are also win later players. Sengun specifically has most of his surplus value tied to the next three years unless one expects he will be worth way over 30% of the cap at some point. 4 years from now, Sengun will be appropriately paid. Amen may be appropriately paid as soon as 27-28. It might not pay off, but if the Rockets decide to trade KD, they probably should be looking at deeper cuts as well.

If you can get 8% more odds at the 1st overall pick in a weak draft in a year that you are trying to lose, it's still better than nothing.

This is one of the things that excites me about the flattening of the draft odds. The current NBA format punishes teams that draft well, but don't get that guy. I am very interested to see how this plays out for team building. Not having a 26 pick and the 27 draft being weak hurts the Rockets in this regard.

See... how can people be so "trading Dillon was a mistake bc he was the heart of our tenacity..." - and then be all nonchalant about ditching Fred and Steven...?

and all of this dumbassery about vets "killing development..." - No, you need vets to push and guide these kids! Look at Alpi before and after Adams went down... Reed needs guidance... and all of this "KD is stunting Reed" nonsense... No, KD has the gravity that gives Reed opportunities to develop - as opposed to getting squashed when the other team is not focused on KD...

It's like folks are all "We need a consistent scoring option.." - we get an elite HOF scorer and folks are all "why is he taking so many shots..."
People need to pick a horse and ride it!

Personally, i've always thought this whole "they're not on the time line" was stupid... U want a mix of vets and youngsters... guys at various stages... not the blind leading the blind...

and for folks that wanna say "thats the coaches responsibility..." - yall cant stop b****in about Ime and the lack of player development... so play the course!

and... folks were all complaining about the double big lineup... well we just saw half a season with it - and half a season without it... that was our edge! People thought, "Oh take Adams out and we're going to have this high motion offense with tons of great shooting.." - howd that work out for u?

Some of this may not pertain to OP... but it got me on a rant... lol

yes, one of the things I don’t think people are grasping is that all future draft picks have been devalued to some extent with the new flattened odds. That’s just to say that it’s now much harder to get good odds at the #1 pick. Under the old system the best u could get was 14%. Now it’s gonna be 8% or if you are lucky enough to have two picks that land #4-10, that’s 16%, but that’s threading the needle…13% is more likely. My point is now it takes two picks to equal the former odds at a #1 pick for those bad teams under the old system. The element of randomness is much more in play. It doesn’t mean teams don’t want picks, but generally they are less certain to yield a particular result.

while these new rules certainly increase the value of middie teams’ picks, I wonder if the overall impact is that established good players woukd now have more value relative to draft picks because no pick will ever have good odds at the #1 or have that safety net of not falling past #4.

Some GMs were on record at the combine saying they think it will take less picks to trade for star players now. I’m assuming that’s because overall more picks are in that pool that at least have a chance at #1. But I would have thought the fact that no pick has a better than 8% chance would mean there’s no such thing as an ultra valuable pick. And therefore good players become more valuable relative to draft picks. Do u see it this way?

NBA Timelines are a lot like NFL Quarterbacks. If you have two, you have none.

They need vets, they just got the wrong ones and a coach that sucks at rotations and offense. We sucked at offense last year, by the way. FVV is not a good pg, Adams is a good backup center WHEN AVAILABLE. KD is a great shooter, but a bad fit for this team. Since he is on his last legs you don’t make trades to fit around a 38 year old guy. You get rid of the 38 year old guy to get vets that fit with your young core. We can’t have a wide open motion offense with FVV and Durant, especially with Ime as coach. The “dumbassery” is a matter of opinion. Usually when you’re on the twenty side of an 80/20 argument, well, you get the point.

Our '27 and '29 picks would have a net increase in value under the new rules. Yes, the Nets pick would likely be devalued, but both Suns picks and the Dallas pick should increase in value.
And I do think picks will increase in value overall if these rules are accepted because any lottery team would have a realistic chance to get a high pick.

It’s just semantics, but trading KD is not re-building it’s just continuing to build around the core. It is obvious that the KD trade was immature. If it was just to dump Jalen’s contract we could’ve done that without giving up a frp and Dillon. The Rockets just screwed up. They should just eat crow and get back what they can. If they get a 20 or better pick in this draft it’s better than the 10 they gave up. Hopefully the filler in the trade would be somewhat useful as well. All this is probably moot, unless Kd wants out. The Rockets are convinced that FVV and Adams puts them right back in the thick of things.
