Looks interesting. I'm hoping it will be a lot edgier since it's on HBO Max, but the trailer doesn't show it.

The description for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe reads, “Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Brian Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well.”

Clever idea. I think I might like it if this was hard core science fiction as opposed to a comedic adventure. But I’m open to see what they do.

If it was 2016 or so this would be a wildly creative premise.

In 2026, it looks more like deriviative slop masquerading as creativity. Though I'm sure its getting relegated to HBO because some exec thought the premise was too "out there" for the slack-jawed yokels watching CBS to swallow.

Spin-off series in general are a creative black hole and a money grab. I mean, all broadcast TV is basically a creative black hole and a money grab but you don't have to squeeze every lemon until it is totally dry. I appreciate TV is all about capturing eyeballs, and recycling IPs gives you a leg up out of the gate, but if I were Emperor of the Universe, one of my decrees would limit successful TV shows to only one spin-off series.

Make it count. Don't just throw every idea you can brainstorm to a wall to see what sticks.
