Morey was great here and way ahead of most of his peers. Most front offices have caught up to him, which is why his record was much spottier with the Sixers. Morey even talked about this how over his tenure with the Rockets it started getting harder and harder to find value late in the draft.

Outside of a few really bad GM or ownership situations, most of these front offices are pretty comparable with some a little better than others and a lot of luck involved. Stone has been so-so but if he had lucked into Wemby and doesn't completely blow asset management with the future picks and Sengun he probably looks like a great GM right now.

    Ownership is the ultimate edge

Tilman will never hire him back. If what Stephen A said was true, even a little bit, Tilman shouldn't ever bring him back. That **** is lame

Sadly this is a better strategy than Stone’s…

Is it? I’d rather have whatever Stone is doing than handing a massive extension to Embiid and a max deal to Paul George. Sixers bench was cheeks and full of aging vet scrubs the whole time he was there which is no better than here.

Maxey is the only impressive thing he did, and that was all the way back in 2020. He also was hired by Philly just 2 weeks before the draft, so how much of that was even really him?

With VJ Edgecombe, he just so happened to have the 3rd pick when the draft was good instead of when guys with little talent like Reed Sheppard were being projected at that slot. Does he take Castle instead of Reed? Maybe, but I doubt it since Reed was the analytics darling of the draft.

I was a big Morey guy - but he had his time here. I don't really see the benefit in bringing him back. The Maxey pick is all I can really point to in Philly. Edgecombe was fairly obvious. And the Embiid and George contracts are atrocious.

The free throw line is technically mid range... should have been more specific.

The Paul George trades have been pretty atrocious.

I liked him initially. When he stepped in, he fired Van Gundy for essentially what we're kind of running into with Ime. He gave Lowry a chance, drafted Brooks and Landry. Made the move to get Scola and brought in Adelman. Was tasked with not be able to tank like Stone, while still being "competitive". He just gives the vibes of being ingenuine. You can't work with ppl while not treating ppl like ppl. Professional or not. He gave this org a bad rep for that. For his "good" it doesn't outweigh his negatives and failures. Let him push Moreyball elsewhere.

Stone isn't the answer but neither is Morey -- we must move forward and not look backwards!

No thanks! Morey would immediately trade away all our assets on geriatric players for one shot rather than to continue building. Of course their are plenty here who would love that.

He dumped or traded a lot of players he drafted so saying he was effective or good there isn’t factual. I don’t blame the GM for everything unlike other Rocket fans. My response is to those who continue to argue that he’s a great GM, which isn’t quite accurate especially considering he hasn’t won a championship. I didn’t mention Stone. Besides Morey was the GM for 13 years compared to Stone’s 6 so comparing their legacies isn’t fair. One thing Stone has in common with Morey is zero championships

why would he be a better talent evaluator? There’s a misconception on how decisions are made. Stone had a lot of input on Morey’s management team. He was even involved in negotiating the Harden deal. The Rockets have always worked by committee in terms of personnel decisions. In the same token, you don’t know what pressure is on Stone to make decisions.
