Would definitely have to give up more than 2027 but with three forwards going top 5, a couple of guards could slip to #6...
that’s a huge factor. The players projected to be in the 5-7 range are guards. Brooklyn, for example, is up to their eyeballs in guards. I don’t think that keeps them from drafting BPA regardless of position, but it might make them more willing to trade back. if u look at draft history, you basically need a pick to trade up in the draft. Teams don’t typically trade out of the draft completely. If we can acquire a later pick, maybe as part of a kD trade, we could package that with the 2027 picks to move up and take a swing at a potential franchise guy. Even better woukd be to move off a prospects as part of trading into this draft. As @Nook said, I’d move off Sengun for a high lotto pick in this draft.
I kind of figured this would be the case. I'm definitely talking to them about if there's any path to getting their draft pick in a KD deal, or possibly even for Sengun if they have an interest in him. I think there are some real opportunities to get into the top 10 here and Stone better turn over every... stone.
There's no reason for the Nets to trade out of their pick. It would be like imagine if the Rocket traded out of the Jabari pick to OKC in return for their future obligations. Regardless of what you think of the Jabari pick itself, at the time there was no point for the Rocket to roll the can down the road when they have already tore apart their team and starting fresh. Trading the pick just means they are tanking a year longer which for both fans and the owner means one extra dead year in which there's nothing to cheer for. Trading for the future is more like what Atlanta was willing to to last draft. Which was to trade the 13th pick to the Pelicans for this year's pick. They could do that because they weren't on a rebuild timeline. So just getting a better pick one year later was more important.
if Wemby is assigned to defend Amen, at best a stretch C will pull Kornet out. Even if Wemby is playing C, his stride is long enough that tactic won't work as well. Stretch C is a luxury, wings/guards who can space is almost a requirement. I'm a bit frustrated people are going after surface level symptoms instead of actual root causes. Other players and positions are being asked to bend and twisted, because the guy they trying force fit as a centerpiece has glaring weakness. Need to search for that cornerstone instead of force build around imperfect players. I've no issues keeping some of the young core if we treat them as they are: very good role players. Bench Sengun and Amen if matchups depends on it, don't force build around cornerstones that aren't meant to be.
yeh... we gotta have a come to Jesus regarding our players' roles... Amen should be a sf, feasting at the dunker spot and i believe he will develop a decent mid-range game... idk if he can become a proficient 3pt threat... Keep molding reed into a pg - i think he can get there and if he does, it mitigates his defensive limitations... Alpi needs to develop into a stretch 4 or play better and consistent defense... KD needs to go into his twilight years as a catch and shoot option on the perimeter - with the occasional iso when needed... Bari is alright... he's developing...
I'm not up on the details of the draft outside of it being deep. Is 11 a good enough pick to potentially pick up someone with outside star potential? Depending on what they consider "immediate impact" I'd kick the tires on that one.
I agree with you. And I think it would be hard. But if you give them a prospect they really like and those picks, the fanbase gets excited about the rebuild. They are kind of locked into this rebuild. Free agency isn’t a place where you can get great plsyers anymore. And they might actually be the worst team in the league right now. But I’d rather have the #5 pick and deal with the Clippers anyway.
Its ridiculous nothing happened from the investigation. Tilman should start his own inspiration company so we can pay Amen and Tari cheap extensions.
Kd, filler for expiring Butler and the no. 1 pick makes too much sense. The Rockets won’t ever do it.
