you aren’t taking into account how strong the 2026 draft is. That’s a major factor. And it’s been known for over 2 yrs that 2026 is going to be a great draft. You can’t disregard that drafts are not created equal. People who spend a lot of time evaluating these drafts say that 2027 will be worse than 2024; a very weak draft.

We’ll see. I’ll bookmark the post and come back to it.

Side note I enjoy watching other teams lose when the rockets own the pick almost as much as the rockets winning ;)

I too enjoy it. It’s like a side hustle. That 2024 yr was fun watching the Suns lose. Hopefully Reed pans out. I had Castle as the better prospect.

Stone might get lucky again with 2027 being two top five picks

I don’t see the “depth” people are talking about when it comes to this class. The top four - terrific. The best top 4 I can recall for quite some time. After that? The prospects seem to be in line with typical mid-lottery prospects.

We'll see how strong the 2026 draft ends up being. The 2021 draft was incredibly hyped up but entire class that year hasn't produced a generational talent yet, Cade being the closest. Even an incredibly weak draft like 2024 has produced some decent talent so far.

If we had retained Brooklyn's pick, the lottery yesterday would have been incredibly disappointing. The best draft classes of all time were incredibly top heavy and outside of the top spots it's a real crapshoot. Beyond the 2027 draft we also have Phoenix and Dallas' picks in 2029. If Brooklyn asked for all of their picks back for this year's #6 I would say no. I'm not losing any sleep over the #6.

I feel like all the way down to 9 this draft is much stronger than normal. Of course it drops off the lower you go, but some of those guys toward the back end of the top 10 could go in the top 5 in an average draft class, IMO.

pretty much anytime we get a swap with the nets it's a top 3 when they own they pick it's outside the top 3.... I think we need to just run back everything next year and just sign shooters, there is no amount of trading or signings we can do that make us better then OKC and Spurs we have to build thought the draft it's the only way.

I really like your takes in general and I do see value in what you are saying. But how come you are not factoring in the fact that they wouldn't tank as hard as they did if they didn't have their picks? I understand that the Bridges trade was happening regardless because of the value they got(my main gripe is how come we didn't get one knicks pick) but we saw it with the Pelicans this year. When the team has no incentive to lose they will climb 3-4 spots in the standings at the end of the season when the bottom feeders are desperate to Tank. That would have for sure happened with the Nets in the last two years. They have a great coach and for sure would have signed some vets as well. I would have still been interested in this type of trade but personally feel like we should have extracted more value. At least one of the Knicks first since we had the leverage.

What could the Nets even offer?

there nothing the nets can offer, but Wizards will hear any and all offers before picking AJ.

I just don’t think they would have been good either way. And I think the 2025 and 2026 drafts were deep at the top and had some real franchise guys.

Brooklyn needed to rebuild. Their fans wanted a true rebuild. They were tired of star chasing; that super team never won anything. No one was going to Barclays when they had Bridges. They won 32 games that yr, when they were trying; that was with bridges having an all star season. That is the best they were gonna do. They were gonna make the bridges deal and rebuild with those suns picks or trade them for picks that conveyed sooner. They were cap strapped at that point. They needed to make a deal with us to speed up that rebuild.

the next yr they won 26 games and 20 this past season while they were tanking. They don’t get out of the 20’s in wins even if they are trying to win and rebuild simultaneously. U mention the Pels this season…Brooklyn didn’t have a Zion. They didn’t have a Trey Murphy. They just didn’t have anyone of the caliber to lift a team significantly in the win total. There was only one eastern conference team that finished below Brooklyn last season that was tanking this season. The Wizards.

I just don’t think it was a good bet. The nets 2025 and 2026 picks could easily have landed in the top end of those drafts. There were real franchise players. As it turns out, the lotto balls didn’t fall brooklyns way. There are not franchise guys in the 2027 draft at this point. It’s considered a very weak draft at this point. Maybe that changes but it has been forecasted this way for a while.

But it’s water under the bridge. We have to decide if we want to sit out this draft or hold onto those 27 picks. At this point the #5 or 6 picks are probably a better thing to have than those 2027 picks (flattened odds and weak draft). So tjat how I see it. And if we were gonna trade Brooklyn back their picks, we should have extracted more.

This answered my question from another thread actually. So it's just a really good top-heavy draft rather than super deep? That's mildly disappointing, I was hoping we might try and move into the lottery to bag an outside chance at another dice roll for a star with all the depth people were hyping.
