I see this a bit differently. Adding KD opened the window but trading him or his contract expiring doesn't necessarily close it. Everything, including being contenders this year was based off of the young guys becoming stars. If that happens, KD is just another piece of the puzzle. I'm with you on offloading KD, especially if it can get us a pick in this draft but the real disappointment is Sengun / Amen / Reed didn't appear to get better and, in some aspects, regressed. If any of the above made the leap to star status, this is a completely different conversation.
Don't have to convince FVV of anything at all, his no trade option expires on June 29th, the date he has to make a decision on his option year. He'll retain full bird rights upon being traded, you don't need his consent.
Any of our future picks and prospects not named Amen. With the flattened odds and Brooklyn potentially being bad enough to finish in the bottom with those new penalty odds, I just don’t see our 2027 picks as more valuable than a prospect at the top end of this draft. The guy I have conviction on is Darius Acuff Jr., but there are a lot of Cougars fans on this board. Hopefully we can get some objective perspective on Flemings as a prospect. Bottom line, if there is someone we truly love outside the top 4 we need to do what it takes to get them. We throw away the two timelines BS and reset the young core through this draft.
If this front office doesn't get over its allergy to finding a stretch 5 I'm going to have an aneurysm
Random thought don't murder me. Would you be willing to give up 2027 BKN pick for BKN's #6 this year?
Absolutely, but that's not enough. I mentioned this in another thread: The more I think about it, the more I think Brooklyn wouldn't want to trade their #6 in a strong draft for the Nets and PHX picks next year. The Suns will probably be at least a play-in team next year (maybe playoff), and the compensation for them just isn't worth it. If we just offer the Suns pick and to return the swap rights next year (and keep our own pick), they will hang up the phone. You have to at least offer our own '27 pick, their swap rights, and the Suns pick as well. Even then I think I'd say no if I were them.
Yeah would possibly have to offer more. I think they also ask for 2029. Curious to see how this new 321 Lottery changes the pick value regarding trades.
and see, i have zero desire for a stretch 5 - zero... get yer a** under the bucket and get me some putbacks! Aint no big gonna shoot from the perimeter at a more advantageous clip than getting dunks at the rim. Box out, set some interior screens - and be ready for the lob! If u got a post up game - thats gravy, baby! but 3 pt range? pfffttt.... i dont want them leaving the paint for any more time than to avoid a 3 second call! vs the whole spacing argument - interior screens are grossly undervalued imo... Adams is great at it - Alpi not so much... lol
It helps to be able to pull guys like Wemby out. They often put him on non shooting centers so he can float around the paint. If you can play “small” without actually playing small, you have a supreme advantage in today’s NBA.
that's pretty much gutting the team for picks which stone hasn't done well when he has multiple picks for the most part
Of course, but the Nets wouldn’t. They might for their pick, the phoenix pick, and, maybe even, a 29 pick. Bird in the hand. I’m not as convinced this is a generational draft at the top as others, but it is a deep draft. I think our best way forward is to try and eke out a middlin pick and a useful vet or two to unload KD. I think it would be really stupid to panic trade Sengun for less than a good pick(s) and a high potential young vet like Ware.
oh i get the allure... but to my way of thinking... id rather have Adams bodying up Wemby and setting an interior screen - than allowing him to be unchecked and letting him provide unfettered help on any potential drives... maybe u notice and get the kickout to the open man - maybe he blocks u from behind bc u were focused on beating your own man...
I think saying Amen and Reed didn’t get better is an exaggeration. I was disappointed that Amen didn’t improve his shot and was less aggressive on the offensive side of the ball than I had hoped. Reed improved in almost all aspects of the game. I think expectations not being met is more of a valid complaint in regards to those 2 players. Sengun definitely regressed, but not to the point where we should dump him for peanuts. Expecting Amen to jump to star status after starting for 1/2 of a season was probably unfair and I’m as guilty as everyone else in that regard. I didn’t even expect Reed to do as well as he did and am pleased with his progress. I still believe the most likely outcome for Reed is to become a competent backup off the bench with momentum changing up-side as a sharp shooter. By far our biggest issues for this team are in the FO including the coach.
If this years draft is deeper than next year then yea for sure. Would BKN do that is the real question?
