I’ve always wanted to go to Argentina, specifically to see their landfills up close. To this point I’ve only been able to dream about how their trash stacks up to ours.

There should be more landfill awareness for tourists... Too many people get caught up in the excitement of visiting a new landfill and easily forget how dangerous it can be...

I’ve never heard of an ornithologist before

    it’s someone who studies birds

What that has to do with his adventure to the landfill only he can tell us. Is there some rare species of bird that chills in the landfills of Argentina?

    Yes.

Anyway, the issue here is not really about hantavirus, but that we have knee-capped our response ability and disease intelligence network.

How we ever allowed public health to become so politicized that we have a road-kill experimenting anti-vaxxer who fired a bunch of disease surveillance experts just floors me. National suicide indeed.

we’re really screwed if another easily spread virus comes around with even just a slightly higher mortality rate than Covid-19

if a Democrat is in charge when it happens, half the country will disregard or not believe anything they say because “Democrat bad, republican good”

if a republican is in charge, they are just straight up too stupid, too incompetent, too low IQ, and too conspiracy brained to adequately deal with the situation

Though personally I am not worried. Unless humanity is just truly extremely unlucky and this virus mutated to be much much more infectious, there is not going to be another pandemic.

AFAIK, only people directly connected to the cruise have been infected. So it does seem like it requires a lot of exposure to transmit.

What made COVID especially sucky was that it wasn't that deadly so it made dumb people feel that it wasn't an issue. If it killed more people, then they would have taken it more seriously.
