Extending him and he never gets a jumper will set this franchise back another 5 years

Depends on how much he gets paid. He can be a solid role player as he is now, if he's paid like a solid role player there's nothing wrong with it.

If he's paid like a star and he never learns how to shoot, that's a problem.

Giving Amen Thompson the “super max” would be a bad idea.

Doubt anyone gets the super max on this team, but like Jaylen Brown I think Amen could earn that by the next contract.

Right now if he were a UFA and there were teams with cap space I think he would fetch $38-40m per season. I’m certain teams desperate for high value young players would give him that. Teams like Nets, Bulls, post-Giannis Bucks, Heat, Clippers, Hornets, Pelicans, Jazz would probably pay a high sum for him.

His father is his agent and parents are usually more stubborn in negotiations. I think he’d happily bet on Amen to wait a year and go RFA. However if Amen shows up shooting 80% from the FT line and 33% from 3, we will be dealing with max offers. If we can get him at or below $40m, I wouldn’t think twice about it. If we somehow get him at Sengun’s price great.

But judging by the middle names the dad gave them, it’s not going to be an easy negotiation.

Alpi has been the main offensive engine and got 21%.

I’m sure Stone will offer Amen the Alpi/ Green amount of 21%.

I'm sure we can pay somebody to read the contracts for him if he struggles with the big words tbh.

Because I'm a big Rockets fan and don't want us to waste a max contract on somebody who never learned a jump shot yet is apparently a "guard." Why so obtuse?

C'mon now, yall. Has one season of Amen playing out of position at 22 blinded you as to what he is!?! Once he's playing with a competent PG (Reed?, FVV,? or someone else), you'll be reminded of how special this guy is. The rest of his game has suffered due to this. He can take over in so many ways.( see game 7 vs GS).
Amen is developing the midrange, and may or may not have the three, but regardless is on a path to greatness.

He's highly athletic and he's a very good defender, which is a great place to start... but he's also a liability in offense because he can't shoot and he doesn't really have guard skills.

That's not a guy you want to pay like he's a star because of the risk of him not developing the rest of his game. If he doesn't develop the guard skills or shot, you have a lesser Ben Simmons.... which is still a solid role player, but what is that worth?

You just can't be on the hook for star money with a non center one way player.

The first & last argument for Amen is always his defense, and yes, no guard or wing would want to face him one-on-one. But the game is played five-on-five and it's relatively easy for ball-handlers to discard Amen through screens. He'll never be the backbone of a defense like Wemby, Gobert, Chet, etc.

With his awful gravity and terrible usage relative to his minutes, for me Amen would have to be one of the 10 best defenders in the NBA to justify a starting role on a playoff team, but I see no evidence of that apart from feels and vibes. The dude averaged 10 more minutes a game this year than Reed, and Reed still had more total blocks and steals - that doesn't exactly scream "young Kawhi" to me.

This summer one Thompson twin is going to get paid a lot more than the other and it will have nothing to do with performance. It will be because Ime is the shadow GM of the Rockets and he doesn't have a f**king clue. Do you?

Are you going to use fake stats from ChatGPT to support your argument again?

Do you need to play basketball to see Amen’s glaring weaknesses?

He could have made a huge leap but he didn’t.

No, you're dead wrong, I played for over a decade. You're just the literal definition of a casual. For reference I have more posts in live game threads than you have on the forum, by about 4 or 5 times, and you've been here 14 years. Your opinion doesn't count for anything, you barely even register on the "fan" scale. Seriously.
