All conversations regarding fixing the Rockets should begin with firing Stone and then trading KD

Step 1: Fire Stone and Ime.
Step 2: Trade KD for a frp and filler.
Step 3: Trade FVV for a can of soup.
Step 4: Trade Sengun for Ware, Herro and a frp, unless you can find a better trade.
Step 5: Re-sign Tari for less than 20m/year or let him walk
Step 6: Trade three picks not the Net 27 pick for Trey Murphy III,
Step 7: Sign Ayo as a FA if you can make the space.
Step 8: Unload DFS at the deadline as an expiring contract if possible.
Compete for a championship in 27 or 28 with a 4 out offense:
Amen, Ayo/Herro/Reed, Murphy III, Jabari, Ware
Bench: Ayo/Herro/Reed, Tari, 26 frp from KD or Sengun, Adams, Capella, re-signed Okogie

After that recent press conference I'm beginning to understand the Ime hatred. I still think he's a good coach, but if he's in lock step with Stone about personnel decisions then he can go too.

after all these years Stone still doesn’t understand that you can’t build around bad characters guys. Christian Wood and KPJ weren’t enough for him to learn. Forget that KD doesn’t fit our timeline. He’s obviously not good for our young core. The young core that stone professes to be the most important factor in team success.

So besides the fact that KD doesn’t fit our timeline, he’s had an adverse effect on team chemistry. If KD is on this team next season we can expect another disappointing season. It’s really poor judgement not to move on and recoup some asset value.

a lot of the decisions that can turn things around woukd also be admissions that previous decisions were wrong. Is Stone man enough to acknowledge mistakes and course correct? I have my doubts.

I’m pretty sure he is the one making the choices. He is certainly the one that picked FVV over Harden and I’m sure he had a hand in the Adams extension and DFS offer as well.

My ideal scenario is to get a new GM that could provide a healthy challenge for Ime's decision making. If Ime doesn't get along with the new GM/front office then he can eventually get replaced. I think Ime's built a good culture and I like that he prioritizes defense. It would be good if we could keep that in tact while taking steps to enhance the offense (e.g., add more shooters to the roster, make changes to the assistant coaching staff, get a better shooting coach...i thought Ben Sullivan was supposed to be a shot doctor?!, etc.).

Run in back with a PG. if FVV doesn’t return to 95% than we have to make a trade. If he does, we should be fine with some improvements in the coaching staff (offensively). Our shooting isn’t great but it’s actually not terrible. We just don’t generate good looks because nobody can dribble affectively.

rockets are too slow getting into half court sets. We need to speed it up and play strong around the rim. Quit flipping it at the rim and hoping for a call.

So... the goal is to become the Miami Heat, just in the West?

Trade whatever isnt named Reed/Amen/Jabari and draft Cam Boozer.

Sign Hartenstein in free agency. Keep Adams if possible.

Fire Ime and Stone. Hire someone who knows how to hold people and *themselves* accountable.

    Build this the right way.

I no longer believe this front office can construct a winning NBA roster. They do not know how and this franchise is in limbo until they realize that.

The vets are on a short bridge timeline anyhow. To me moving aren't a priority, am flexible as to whatever FO whatever they need to facilitate deals and salary match.

    Need new FO
    Need new coaches
Need new young players as core.

Doesn't have to be done all at once, but if team can't overcome non-shooters then we need to flip both Amen and Sengun. I would be ok with them be role players at an affordable salary, but with the current treatment of them as the future, it's not realistic.

There is no urgency to flip Bari nor Reed, since expectations are still realistic and their salary are not an issue to the cap.

Sengun is an above average center and can win many regular season Center match-ups. He is still useful. Amen is a very good defensive wing. We should use them and pay them as such. To treat them beyond who they are will result in failures.

Right now it's KD and Sengun getting doubled, when they are replaced, whomever is the next #1 scorer will get the same blame treatment because Amen's defender will sag off of him and it's 4 on 5 basketball. Overlooking this is willful blindness.

If the end goal is championship, need to look for that future young franchise player, because that person is not on this squad, the sooner this is realized the less time we waste.

On the front office and coaching, I'm normally of the opinion that it's much easier to keep personnel and pivot if theses people are willing to be humble, not stubborn, evolve and improve.

However, it's not clear to me that this staff will do that. So while being very mindful of not a knee-jeek reaction, which was the theme of this thread, I don't think this group will/can change.

    GM
    1. Stone gives Ime too much power and there's no healthy tug and pull.
    2. If trading Amen and Sengun, could be more admitting that they failed, even if it is the right thing to do. Conflict of interest and self preservation.
    3. Being high on a player is not necessarily an attractive indicator. Stone was high on Dipo, Christian Wood, KPJ, Brook Lopez ( who ended up being washed), and others

    Ime
    1. Lack of offense is one thing, but is he willing to lean into offense. If that's an issue, then yes we do need a different coaching staff.
    2. Lack of vet coaches on staff. Many yes-men.
    3. Improvement over Silas, but not proving to be a good development staff. If player improvement is only relegated in the summer at player's own time, that's a problem.
