Eh I don’t know that the “middle of the season” thing is so important when it comes to hiring a GM Most likely GM hire would be someone who is an assistant somewhere now. I don’t have numbers to back it up or anything but it sure seems like there are a lot more managers fired and hired for the next season elsewhere than there are GMs As for Espada, we could put Lopez in charge for the rest of the season and then hire full time in the offseason
Truth is you never know how someone is going to do in a new job until they are in it. It’s always a crap shoot whether you make the move in season or offseason. That doesn’t mean change will be bad, it just means you don’t know This reminds me of a golf trip I took to Orlando many years ago. Shot multiple rounds in the mid 80s and went to Golfsmith and traded in my clubs. One of my buddies said “you really think new clubs is gonna help” with a laugh, I said “I don’t know, but I’m not going to play another sh!tty round with these”
Why do you think firing the GM right before the draft would make the draft a better draft? They gonna bring in a whole new scouting department b/w now and then?
Claim that Joe should keep his job because nobody can turn this ship is going around the problem. It is like let's sign the below average driver(without F1 experience at all) to 4y extension for our quite new F1 team because we probably won't we competitive in while. Joe is not a leader and most of the time is the most stupid person in the room. Everynight you see teams use their bench with improvised plan according to how game goes and managers read own and oppo pitchers and make decision about what to do. The decision often pre planned but the timing of it. Astros are just reacting all the time to events that we and our manager should have had chance to impact 3min before. Correa going down will leave the team with even bigger hole in leadership. If Joe is around when new batch of young stars are born it will be like Marlins with Chisholm era mediocre players fkin around and acting world superstars that don't have to focus. For being late they blame some vet (Rojas) for not waking them up. New manager does't have to be 65yo old timer. He just have to be smart and leader type bb lifer. There is a reason why nobody wanted Joe as manager even being on this dynasty train when usually coaches in his position are fought over to bring the magic and secrets over. There are players who are wanted as manager right after they retire because these people in bb business see each others years and years. Part is mouth to mouth but part is seeing people interact time after time. You know who is respected and listened and who is not. If you know your s**t you know who have original ideas and who are just cheerleaders. You can be great star as Cardinals Molina or you can be back up catcher like Vogt. These people know each other. We have tried to convince ourselves that Joe is up to it. He is not. We do dumb s**t like no tomorrow and lose to other teams on all those little things around corners we could be sharp on. Silly little things make me angry. Is Diaz just laughing Joe out of the room when Joe gently tries to ask have new hitting coaches been helpful unlocking something. Ofcourse Altuve being Altuve does't help giving cover to Diaz having swing at everything aproach. The feeling is being here is enough. I know Crane hates to pay non playing staff for not working but having already dumb manager who is drowning and only fights for his job might not be the long term plan to go with. There is no amount of arms or games of next day or career of player that Joe won't sacrifice to keep his job. Same might go for Dana.
Having the right scouting department is one part of the equation (and a huge part). That’s where Dana excelled in Atlanta and turned that into a GM job The other part is taking all the data and reports from your scouts and pulling the trigger on the picks in real time. That is what Dana, in my opinion, has not done very well. In reality they are two very different jobs If a new GM came in there is definitely a chance he does a better job with the data and reports our organization already has when it’s time to pull the trigger on picks. It’s also possible he brings in some good info from where he is currently working, cause if we did make a change now (we won’t) we would be bringing in someone else who is currently spending a lot of time preparing for the draft, he just isn’t doing it at Union Station
Me too now! in fact I’m currently in Ireland and have shot 86-83-84 the last 3 days and I’m happy as can be with it But when I was in my early 40s there was a lot more in the tank lol

Red Sox were 10-17 when they fired their manager. 6-4 since. Phillies were 9-19 when they fired their manager. 8-1 since. The idea that you shouldn't try to change things because ... I'm not sure exactly ... seems dumb.
