I think at this point we make Lance become a 1 inning reliever and to hell with what he prefers... maybe they can salvage something... dfa certainly reasonable.

LOL. I have been pretty consistent in my assessment of him. His real genius was in convincing Crane to tank and hiring Strom and the analysts who figured out how to maximize certain kinds of pitchers. But generally he was not a generational evaluator of talent in the draft, wasn’t overly gifted in executing trades, and didn’t come out with a great track record on free agent signings or player extensions. He deserves a LOT of credit for the dynasty, but I’m very skeptical he could have done much better than how it played out after he was fired.

Put LMJ on the IL for his finger blister so Pecko and Ullola can have a shot to start some games.

All of the DFA Lance posts are all fine and well

But we already have no one who is MLB quality to fill out our rotation, same on the position player side of things also

This organization is depleted of talent.
Injuries have obviously played a huge part, but for all the talk of Dana being a prospect genius, he has done a very poor job here and it’s time to clean house

If they wanted Pecko and/or Ullola to start games they didn’t need Lance to implode to create a spot lol

Part of it was making additional moves on the 40-man to get those guys added. Another part was probably sliding them in on their regular rest schedule based on what days the Stros needed starts. Gordon, Alexander, Lambert were the older/expendable pitchers that you could throw out there to eat innings while the younger guys could develop a little while longer. Fortunately, Lambert emerged on the other side of it.

I think Lance's salary is a big factor of him getting a certain sample size of games to start. I've seen enough. Either phantom IL stint or DFA.

Pecko just started pitching for real iirc, and Ullola would actually bring the staff's walk rate up.

Not great options at the moment, but god willing they will be sometime soon.

I don't know if we know that. A few weeks, no one would have thought Peter Lambert would be our 2nd best pitcher either. Until they get a chance, you don't really know what you have.

A few weeks ago, I said the rotation should be Arrighetti, Burrows, and then rotate whatever 3 minor leaguers the Astros think are best until you hit on someone. Now you have Imai coming back, and Lambert has claimed a role for now. So that leaves 1 spot (or 2 if they go 6-man) that they should keep trying out people.

Lance doesn't give the Astros anything they can't get elsewhere at this point. At least if some minor leaguers fail, that's data you can use to evaluate whether to keep them or ditch them in future years. Same issue as Espada basically - the Astros never suck, so they never get a chance to let their minor leaguers have extended looks. Now is that opportunity.

McCullers' contract extension was signed in 2021, long after Luhnow was gone. Between this and the Imai 6-man claims, you seem to be just making things up these days.

    All fine and well

But I’ll stick by my statement, the opportunity has been there basically since week 3. As for 40 man spots, we have plenty of guys on our 40 man who are ass. Our system blows

Oh ok, pitching has been too good to let guys like Pecko and Ullola have a shot

    Got it

Just to be clear, I value pitching well over pitching endurance. I just find it funny that LMJ is 2nd in IP for the Astros.

This next series with the Reds... whatever, it's interleague.

Next week with the Mariners and Rangers may very well be Espada's last stand.

Manager outsmarted Jo, look at the inning pitched today of their pitchers. Saving bullpen use can be saved by what a real manager did today. And this isn’t the first time. Team needs to start looking at the farm system to start using them. Our current pitchers is not any better than them. Lastros

Surely Lance tripped and broke his arm walking to the locker room?

Bright spot today: Brice Matthews has nine hits, including three home runs, in his last nine games.
