Sitting here - proctoring final exams and thought to myself - "hey, why not start a thread asking people about their avatars?" Some of the avatars are self-explanatory - mainly the ones that deal with Rockets players. However, there are a lot of good ones and I am curious to know more about them. My avatar hasn't changed for awhile - it is a picture of Quorthon, legendary frontman of black metal band Bathory. So, explain your avatar..
A screencap from the greatest video on YouTube in the history of the world. My all time favorite band in their absolute prime - young, angry, arrogant and playing all their live songs with nothing but energy and blistering fast tempos. YOU ****ING b*stard!! I'M GONNA GET YOU!!
When I joined, I was working in the SW. Spent a lot of time in Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and SW Colorado. Lots of geologic rims in that part of the world--Mogollon Rim, Moab Rim, Virgin River Rim, North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon. But mostly, rimrock refers in general to the various sandstone layers that are formed into arches, canyons, hoo-doos, monuments, and such. Plus, rim-rocking had a basketball connotation, so it tied it all together. Seemed a natural name at the time. Then, I found the book cover of this old western that I use as my avatar, which I think is pretty cool. Here's another cover of the book.
Thought about posting that but....saw the mass pew-pew in that scene and it's all just too much. Movie will probably be banned soon.
Mine used to be a photoshopped McCormick Taco Seasoning packet that said “Oppo Taco” — a nod to Chas McCormick’s knack for opposite-field homers. Since I saw this thread and Chas is no longer an Astro, I figured it was time for a change. So I asked ChatGPT to design my new avatar for this site.
It's me from the summer of 1992 pulling off a BMX trick called a "decade" on a friends 1989 Mongoose Decade Pro. The video below is not me, but this is what the trick looks like in real time..
