the reason Amen was not as relentless as others is because he works hard on both offense and defense all game with only 1 minute rest every quarter
It’s a collective and collaborative effort as has been reported. Stone said he sees every staff member as scouts. Development people, scouting, coaching, management etc. This is similar to how Morey operated, who took advice and ideas from Stone as well
That's 80% it lol? It's like ("No kids we don't need restaurant / "name brand" PG with weaknesses - we already have "PG with weaknesses at home!") Stonedoka's Point Guard, it doesnt matter their passing shooting ballhandling strengths. They must maintain team rebounding level. Not give up anything on defense. Must have size or strength with it. lf the PG sacrifices on any of those areas outside their core skills, the PG doesn't count. So essentially the PG has to be all everything Cade Cunningham, Tyrese Haliburton no weaknesses. Naturally too costly to even think about. If PG not that level, Rockets will try to "craft a combo guard" out of anyone on the roster.
Yes, except as inadvertently mentioned by stonedoka ardent supporter Stephen A, stonedoka is giving mixed signals on what they're open to in backup PG: “There are areas of improvement, no doubt, and it’s not like we’re basing everything on them (VanVleet, Adams) coming back. Lack of shooting, back-up point guard. We’ll have some very interesting conversations on having a little more mix instead of some duplicates out there,” Udoka said. So I wouldn't pay attention to what they say, except that they like VanVleet and they don't want him supplanted for now. Everything else is likely BS - they just want to first play with this group of vets and keep switching them while they "extend their timeline to 10 years". They're not in a rush to improve the team. I suspect they're there to just milk their position of profit and having injuries plays into their hand to just use that as an excuse to wait for young core to grow up and have both ownership and fanbase look forward to that. They have some picks coming up too to stoke excitement. It's pretty shrewd in a way. Because I don't see KD bolting once he figures their plan out.
I think FVV is fairly limited offensively, doesn't shoot well in the mid range or at the rim - Yes, the team missed his competency, but I think a good many players could have filled that void in competency. I mean this team simply lacked the entire point guard skillset. It wasn't bad, it was non-existent. Fred is fairly easily upgraded talent wise, just not so easily when it comes to the salary cap. Having his bird rights was why they kept him after his contract expired because they couldn't sign any competent point guard with the cap space they had. It was Fred or ... nothing and we see how nothing worked out. [qoute] We can still take a chance on Ayo with a SNT if the Wolves can't agree to terms with Ayo, as example. Would FVV agree to play on Twolves with ANT? Pretty decent chance especially if there was an extension involved. At the very least, it's time to get mix up the end of bench playmaking.[/QUOTE] Fred has until June 29th to make a decision on his option. The league year starts July 6th. He won't have any say in being traded or not but apparently Stone and Ime love this dude so he's probably not moved. I do like the idea of FVV for Ayo and had mentioned Durant for Ayo.
Meh. It mostly was, Reed basically redshirted his rookie year. And you know what he meant. No need to be pedantic.
- 2021. I see it as Jalen Green essentially turned into Durant. Even if it led to chemistry issues, a 38 year old Durant is still better than 95% players players in the league. Would be nicer to have 15 more younger years of a Barnes or Mobley over Durant, but Durant is still decent return on investment. (Green pick mitigated by Sengun's selection) - 2022. Chet and Banchero are the only reasonable franchise players. There's still even debate on Banchero's effectiveness. While there players in that draft better than Jabari, it's having to really reach down 10 more slots to find diamonds in the rough. So Jabari is decent "safe" pick (Draft also was mitigated with Tari Eason pick) - 2023. Amen is correct pick. Just bad lottery ball luck not getting Wemby (Cam Whitmore a decent risk at #20) - 2024. Jury still out on Reed Sheppard. I think according to Rockets own scheme and point guard philosophy, Sheppard didn't fit the team approach. They drafted Sheppard on his off-the-chart advanced numbers at Kentucky. His shooting definitely fills a need on a shooting starved team. But everything about Stephon Castle and Clingan suggests "Ime player" . So Sheppard is the most questionable high pick to me.
We'll see what happens but it reeks of procrastination when I see it.... It is like Stone ignores OKC and the Spurs....they don't exist for him until he plays them. Basically Patrick had refused to show himself publically. The Timberwolves have played much harder than the Rockets basically in the last 3-4 years.
nope. Not the same thing. I think you people just want to use that as an excuse for him. He played his first year and he simply wasn’t good enough.
Not sure who “you people” are, I speak for myself alone and call it like I see it. You call it an excuse, I call it reality and necessary context when assessing his development. To each his own.
You and people who keep insisting this year is his rookie year despite the fact he played in 52 games at 12 min a game. This isn’t college and he wasn’t redshirted. He didn’t sit out a whole year. He actually played, stunk it up and got sent to develop which he came back from and played some more. Facts are facts and by no means is he a rookie
He was stuck playing that tired high screen and roll with Sengun predominantly or coming off a Sengun DHO to shoot, drive or give JG a DHO. That’s what we played unfortunately.
Where Chet impacts the game is as a rim deterrent. Amen cant do that but theres few players in the league that have the perimeter chops Amen does. Jabari is kinda like Chet. Elevated role player. I dont lose sleep over not having Chet. Sengun has to go though. Him and FVV are like trying to drive a sports car with the e brake on.
This is the nba, not college. He wasn't good enough to get on the court his rookie year, I don't know why you delusional fan boys ignore the first 20 games last season where he was apart of the rotation and looked like a scared little boy who wouldn't even shoot. He is a late first round pick 1 trick pony in a regular draft, but was in a historically weak draft lottery wise and Stone drafted for need instead of the most talented player. Those are the FACTS so don't be condescending and dishonest.
How was I condescending? Because I used the word pedantic? How was I dishonest? If you want to call 12 minutes a game in just over half of the games we played serious run, then go for it. I don’t consider it that. Further, I am hardly a Reed fanboy. I just don’t consider his rookie year a real sample size.
Fred has until June 29th to make a decision on his option. The league year starts July 6th. He won't have any say in being traded or not but apparently Stone and Ime love this dude so he's probably not moved. I do like the idea of FVV for Ayo and had mentioned Durant for Ayo.
lol good analogy but fred still has value in my opinion and he was asked to run a slow offense that was predominant high screen and roll. He only has a year left. But if there’s better options at that position then we should move him
At the end of the day if we’re being honest we have just struck out/gotten unlucky on all of our lotto picks (whatever you wanna call it) We went through the whole rebuild process, the dark ages … and never got “the guy” Jalen Green - speaks for itself, they already traded him. Not the guy, not even close Jabari - solid player but as the #3 overall pick. Not the guy. (Could’ve drafted Jalen Williams - the good one or Jalen Duran) (both all stars btw) Amen - really solid player probably has the most potential out of all of our guys. Can’t shoot which is a huge hole in his game. MAYBE could become “the guy” doubtful Reed - great shooter. But he’s undersized and gets destroyed on defense. Unless he puts on a bunch of muscle and learns how to play point guard he won’t be the guy. (Could’ve drafted Stephon castle btw) Detroit- Cade, got their guy Magic- Paolo, got their guy OKC- Chet, got their guy Spurs- Wemby def got their guy Truth is looking back we just had HORRIBLE fortune in the draft. It really sucks we never got the #1 pick in all those years. The 2023 draft with Wemby will always sting forever.
