100% agree. Stone is basically Tom from Succession. Just doing the directives of whomever is his boss. That is the problem.

The only "basketball person" in the room is Ime, and he doesn't understand offensive or defensive schematics in a post Kerr/Steph influenced basketball world.

The other issue is that there are very few if any former Rockets who around the NBA coaching/FO/scouting ranks to maybe catch Patrick's ear and come in to help turn around the ship.

The only one I can think of is Cassell. But he has bounced around the league as an assistant so much, it just feels like there is something missing for him to truly be a good HC. Sort of like why Silas never got a top job until Houston.

I'll probably just avoid the season all together. No point paying attention.

Reading the recent ESPN article on the Rockets' failed season, I wonder if there is a sliding narrative.

Certainly we didn't bring in KD aiming to barely scratch out the same number of wins but having to play him the 2nd-most minutes among NBA players. Ime at least said that part aloud.

But now they're on, "Keeping KD / improving our team without sacrificing the growth of such-and-so players."

I'm going to keep my expectations low enough, so it's tough to get excited. I'm going to be "Apathy Ren."

I agree with the idea of revamping the player development/scouting/analytics department.

Not enough basketball people in the room. They can't even pass the "eye test" for identifying talent.
