No one thinks that right now. But he's the best (and probably only) shot we have left at a superstar.
Sengun is not scola just cause they have a similar post up game…everything else couldn’t be more different.
My take on Reed is that I think he is going to be good, because he is GREAT at shooting - he just needs to find out how to get that shot, and needs to be leaned into. SHOOTING is the most important skill a player can have - you don't have to be good at anything else to be successful if you can shoot......but if you are you generally thrive. Which is why I hated giving Cam up, he has a very smooth stroke too and he had that bull mentality and aggression...but he can shoot, and would only get better. I love Amen but he has the yips on shooting, and that is a major tell about a flawed player. Sengun can't shoot 3s, he has a soft touch but he isn't a great shooter even in the paint. Jabari is still improving - and he is a good shooter already. Tari is meh at shooting, energy guy. And we don't have a system to help guys out. We do not have an alpha and in TRUTH, none of them - project as a great player NONE of them - You knew MJ was great at 21 years old, you knew Hakeem was great at 21 years old - GREAT players rarely develop - some do...like Kobe etc, but most come in already pretty great. So, I would keep looking. DD
Jalen Green- 3 year , ~21% of cap ( 2 year + player option) Sengun- 5 year, ~21% of cap (4 year + player option) Kevin Durant- 2 year, ~26 of cap (1 year + player option) There is no way Amen is getting a max or close from the Rockets. Very likely he gets a shorter contract in exchange for a more money like 3 year, 25% of cap (2 year + player option). Frankly I think that's preferable for Amen so you can see how the shooting turns out.
Ask yourself how the majority of those made shots are created. Rebounds / put backs and 55% of the others are assisted. That doesn't scream put the ball in his hands.
in ISOs Amen is has better PPP than Alpi both reg season and playoffs https://www.nba.com/stats/players/isolation?CF=TEAM_ABBREVIATION*E*HOU&dir=D&sort=PPP https://www.nba.com/stats/players/i...*HOU&SeasonType=Regular Season&dir=D&sort=PPP
Just because Amen is better than Sengun at isolation doesn't mean he should be doing it on a high volume. He's not efficient when compared to the rest of the stars around the league.
0.98 PPP on ISOs is pretty efficient similar to Jalen Williams Jalen Brunson Kawhi Cade better than Giannis Lebron Deni Avidja Maxey https://www.nba.com/stats/players/isolation?CF=POSS*GE*1.5&SeasonType=Regular Season&dir=D&sort=PPP guess you need to move the goalpost again
Because Sengun is better at basketball than Amen and i'd rather keep the better player on my team. I can talk in absolutes because unlike you i can make accurate predictions about players' futures. Amen has weak handles, can't shoot because of his poor form, is easy to guard against set defenses and his offensive production largely depends on others reading his cuts and teams having weak perimeter defenders. He'll be 24 next season. We'd need a miracle for him to become the main guy or even the second option. There are too many holes in his game and too little time left. That being said, it doesn't matter what i believe. They are going to keep Amen because Ime likes him more than anyone else on the roster. They're going to trade at least two of Sengun, Reed and Jabari the only young valuable pieces on the roster other than KD for Giannis to fulfill Ime's wet dream of the ultimate manosphere lineup. You're going to watch the ugliest basketball of your life and you're going to like it. We won't win a thing but well look manly on the court. We'll terrorize the baddies courtside and mansplain to our opponents, the "hoopers". Those weak, sniveling, aesthetically pleasing basketball players, the poofs. Ime will j*zz his pants watching how tough his boys are and so will you at home.
Amen, Jabari, and Reed should be developed offensively. Those three could actually work together because two are shooters and Amen can be very efficient from the dunkers spot. Obviously the midrange and corner 3 have to continue to improve
Even with his flaws Amen was one of the most effective +/- players in the post season (at least through the first 5 games). It’s true his corner 3 has to improve, but he’s a guy to build around. Him and Alpi are just an awkward combination
Of course, Amen from the dunkers spot - where he's best. I wouldn't consider that a first option. That's a guy who feeds off of rebounds and assisted buckets. Not at all the offensive facilitator. To avoid confusion, here's the quote I responded to referencing first option ... Hell, with his athleticism, I don't think he really needs a 3 ball, he just needs to hit middies at a very efficient rate - that changes how defenders play him more than hitting ~33% from outside. He can get to that mid range any time he wants. That's pretty much the SGA approach. I'm not sold on Reed yet. If he can't play the point, you need a SG/SF sized point guard to play alongside him, he just doesn't have the size to match up with bigger guards. Jabari fits with literally anyone - as long as he isn't asked to defend 5's.
That is a lot of money and pressure would be on him not just to play well, he has to lead and take accountability now.
Great points, I should amend that to say he has 1b potential if that midrange becomes consistent. Assuming KD is gone the roster has no 1a currently. I think it’s a crime that Jabari was never developed because we put all our chips on Jalen. He’s still young enough imo to become a 3rd option on a contender. Reed is a combo guard 6th man sadly, that was a huge miss not drafting Castle
summing Amen's offensive skills as just someone who needs to just be in the dunkers spot is plain stupidity https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CF...eamID=1610612745&flag=3&sct=plot§ion=game
I don't understand why they haven't worked on Jabari's handles like the world depended on it, he'd be very similar to KD if he had any dribble drive game. IF Amen comes up with a consistent mid range game, he can be 1A .... just look at SGA, that's where he lives, yes he's a decent 3 point shooter but that's not what makes or breaks him. It's shooting .750 at the rim and 50%+ inside the 3 point line. Hate to admit it but it looks like I was wrong on Reed at draft time .... Castle doesn't shoot well and still looks like the much better player. I wonder if they package Reed this year or give him one more year to develop. He's still really young and unlike the last guy we gave 4 years of development to, he has made improvements.
