They’re not trying to make him a 2 inning RP. He gave them a good inning and got a little positive momentum. Take that and don’t risk reversing it with a meltdown with him out there a 2nd inning.
He only threw 10-15 pitches that first inning… he’s had longer multi-inning stints before in his career. Nobody knows what he’s trying to be, including Abreu. He’s not appearing to be much of a 9th inning guy. He was a weapon as a setup guy that occasionally finished one inning and started a next. At this point, he needs to just have scoreless outings and hope the stuff/K’s work their way back. If that outing helps his confidence, I see it as a low-risk move given that it’s hard to get confidence boosters without actual leverage or actual saves. (Not to mention there isn’t much in the bullpen these days regardless… Weiss isn’t some closer in waiting).
