Random question, were the Astros able to get an extra year of service time with Arrighetti keeping him in the minors earlier this year? Is he a free agent 2030 or 2031? We should highly consider sending Cam Down if he can’t get his hitting to at least league average to get an extra year out of him
I'm glad the Astros got the win today, but Abreu's velo being down to league averageish is a massive issue.
Correa is having a great season . I would keep him as leadoff hitter even when pena comes back . Really good job taking easy pitches for singles and working the count . He's saving his back for the long haul which is smart . Playing SS is a grind . We need jeremey back in action . For sure I expected some wear and tear from last year . He really used his athleticism and effort to make defensive plays and grind out basehits. He played hard. We need like a 90% pena back . Good news is he's gotten some rest . Bad news he needs to get up to MLB speed . Really nice to see paredes on a bit of a streak . Yordan cooling off , but you have reason to hope he doesn't slump too long Starting pitching looking better this time through the rotation (spencer to spencer ) Just gotta grind it out until things click . I still like Imai's stuff . He's our new framber , just need to find him the right sports psychologist and also catcher . I've made no secret about what I think of yainer . Guy just has a trash approach. Im a big fan of Dana brown. It's hard to be at the top consistently. MLBs sign stealing punishment made it even harder for us . Not being NY or LA or having an owner thats super rich makes it harder too. Imo we were always going to be a team needing to buy pitching at the deadline , specifically bullpen help. Is there anyone outside of King and teng who has been good ? Abreu should be OK , given he's not hurt . I'm not confident on hader with our track record rehabbing guys . Alas , if it comes to it we can likely get a good package for paredes if pena comes back and looks solid . Maybe it's better to keep the infield depth and trade from the minors ? I don't know if we are contenders . We really need better pitching at the top. If our rotation stabilizes we can get to the playoffs with good offensive luck and health. I'm not the biggest hunter brown fan. Regardless off this whole did he throw too hard in spring training thing , my concern is that he's never been effective if he doesn't have his top velo. He's a good young athlete, but I don't want to pay that type of pitcher . What is his off speed on the 20-80 scale ? 55 ? He might be at a 65 fastball , maybe you can argue a 70 grade. I don't like the long term profile as your ace. This team has a lot of pieces and valuable players. I'm still excited to see where we are in a month. I hope Dana has the freedom to do what's best for the present and future. I want espada gone , but IDK who I'd replace him with so I'm not banging the drum too hard on that one. If Matthews actually continues to grow this season can we get a jake meyers for bullpen help trade ? We need to give Jose some more rest too . Biggest thing I can see in the data is he needs to elevate the ball a bit more . Good job taking more walks , but unfortunately it hasn't come at the expense of K rate. Walker has been awesome . Good job not selling low Dana , good job walker for bouncing back. A lot of things going right . A few drastic things going wrong . Iance is still a wildcard for us because we are depending on him
FA eligible 2031 Arb eligible 2027 3 options Cam's probably not going back down unless his bat is REALLY bad for a long time. Being a plus glove helps and he appears to slowly be finding his way with the bat, still a haul to go though. Who down there are we dying to get up?
Patience is key here. We do not need to do a hard re-build. If we have a down year, because of injuries so be it. Crane needs to open up the pocket book for Brown and Alvarez and keep us competitive.
Updated injury return timelines: Mid May: Imai, Pearson, Dezenzo, Allen Late May: Hader, Pena, Loperfido, Meyers Mid June: Brown, Trammell Late August: Blanco, Wesneski TBD: Javier, Walter
Seems like Zach Cole should be ready soon and probably should get an opportunity to see if he can add some excitement to the bottom of the lineup.
Tucker has been as* too. Really piss*s me off his huge contract is like a drop in the bucket for them. F them and F the Lakers. edit: guess he walked it off last night? Or this weekend. Still stand by my statement lol
He didn’t have a ton of options. They’re paying McCullers and Javier $40M. Imai is really the one to blame. Not only is he making damn good money, but he requires Houston to carry 6 SP even when he’s not ****ing pitching which has left Houston with 1 less RP for the first 6 ****ing weeks of the season. If anyone wants to call for Dana Brown’s job, it pretty much starts and stops with him making Tatsuya Imai his big free agent expenditure this offseason, closely followed by signing Christian Walker last season and extending Cristian Javier the season before that. Ryan Weiss is making $2.5M. I admit I had hope for him but the only reason his failure is shining so brightly is because Imai folded like a lawn chair at the first hint of adversity in his life.
Normally I would be pretty excited about Cole hitting a home run but no amount of offense can overcome how bad this pitching staff is. I will never forgive Espada for overusing Brown and Harder.
Yet with all this losing we find ourselves in one of the shittiest divisions in baseball and only 4.5 games back from first. LAA and SEA about to lose again tonight and TEX is in NYY and OAK is at PHI tomorrow. If we continue to stay within 4-8 games by the time we get a few guys back who knows. It’s crazy.
This wasn't true when he was healthy, and it's not true now. They were playing a 5 man rotation until Imai got hurt, thanks to the offdays. If they are running out 6 SPs now, it has nothing to do with him.
