My point is our young players would be wasting the next several years while they’re at their peak physically and as they are entering their prime years. Thompson is already 23, Smith 22. Are we wasting another 2-4 years in Mediocrity to develop a player that may never pan out? OKC was built differently. They got lucky in the SGA trade and they struck gold with Holmgren and Williams. They couldn’t win without adding key vet free agent pieces. We don’t have that luxury. We had a draft pick that didn’t pan out, and had to pick after them while having 2 guys as our top scorers who can’t shoot. So structurally we have to change as we move forward and dismantling a team to move backwards into rebuilding mediocrity makes little sense. This is unprecedented. The team already has rebuilt after 5 seasons and this year was win now mode phase 3 as Stone has repeatedly said. OKC didn’t dismantle a team and rebuild through the draft. None of the championship teams from the last 10 years have done this. Lakers won in 19-20 by adding AD. Celtics won in 23-24 by adding Jrue and Porzingis. Warriors won back to back 17-18 with Durant. We have 1 star. We don’t have the structure to win. We need dominant players and combine that with other vets and our young players to win. Cannot win without stars. We aren’t the Suns. We would have a mix of young players and vet stars. That’s why I am hesitant to trade Eason away who has bird rights and still a lot of potential. The Suns broke up that team completely for stars and had an awkward roster with missing pieces in the rotation. Win now. No draft
we let tari walk... and keep the young core intact and hope our vets are healthier next season... jockey some of the bench slots... no major adjustments until after next year...
Just messing around on trade machine but for a Giannis trade you could do Rockets in: Giannis & Dejounte Murray Bucks in: Sengun, Reed, Tari S&T(or DFS), Jordan Poole expiring, 4 1st with 1 a swap NOLA in: FVV & Myles Turner
I think what's so concerning is that his tools are very limited. He can't beat centers off the dribble or a 40 year old Mike conley.
Ayo would only cost $35.1m for matching purposes - If you think it's too rich, you could make the following years decline. Ant, KD, McDaniels and Randle would make a potent offense and has Gobert as a backstop - they could be really dangerous. You can't aggregate in an outgoing S&T. that player's salary stands alone. Murphy for Sengun was pure fantasy - doubt they trade him, but the idea is to combine two 50/40/88 guys around Amen. I doubt the Ware scenario exists either - another fantasy, kinda funny to see so many jump on that bandwagon now - months later.
The idea wasn't really to mimic OKC, just to put 4 shooters (and more on the bench) around Amen .... Dosunmu and Murphy are also excellent defenders on top of being 50/40 guys. In that scenario, if Amen learns to shoot, even in the mid range that team is as dangerous as they come.
I’ve been on the band wagon a long time. I also don’t mind dream casting on trades. It’s part of the fun of this forum. Is Ayo worth 35m even if declining? I’m not sure, but he would be a great fit for this team. We have seen one year wonders before, though. Just like last off-season, I think our options are limited, but at least gives us something to do through this dismal baseball season.
Hate to say it but. Segun isnt a 1A or 1B for a championship team. Get rid of stone. Get what you can for Segun.
I think the only one of those choices likely to be somewhere else next season is Tari, and only because he didn’t sign that extension. I’ll bet that extended slump scared the team. I’ve been watching the Rockets and the NBA longer than most of you have been alive and I don’t remember ever seeing a player have a slump that long where they did absolutely nothing right, where they seemed to just forget how to play the game. If I’m the GM, there’s no way I bring him back unless we can plan to bring him off the bench next year give him a contract that reflects that status. I love the guy as a person, but no longer trust him as a player. Ideally, that slump was caused by some personal issue that won’t ever be repeated, and we use it as an excuse not to overpay him. Realistically, though, I think another team decides to offer him a big enough deal that we don’t bother to match.
I’m way in the other direction from what most people think we should do. If you only had 1 move to fix it. Winning a Jabari trade is the best move on the board. Go for a fast PG/SG that can shoot. *Straight up for VJ Edgcombe *Straight up for Jalen Green *In a bigger pack for next star to be available Jamal Murray, Jalen Williams, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Brown, Donovan Mitchell. *Jrue Holiday + blazers picks ,young player Capitalize on his aesthetic game and sellable upside. Take your calls for KD and then behind the scenes think about it for 30 seconds curve all the KD calls into Jabari talks. Everyone I listed can shoot an open 3 and guard another teams 4th best player like Jabari does. Move KD to the Jabari spot because he’s better at everything. Get faster, get another guy thats comfortable with the ball and can guard on perimeter on the floor. Everyone of our starters can handle and move from now on. Change the flow.
I only selected Tari, because I believe they'll run it back with a few fringe additions to the roster and the return of FVV/Adams. Is that what I want, no it isn't, but the likelihood of drastic changes is low.
They should fire the bald fraud and trade everyone not named Jabari, Amen and Kevin Durant. Try to keep Tari because he's has it, he just needs to be consistent, dude has a Jimmy Butler-OG Anunoby-Kawhi Leonard ceiling, I would hate to see him flourish in another jersey. I would hope Fred would turn down his player option but him and Ime go on vacation together so thats not happening. Capela is clearly done so they gotta get more front court depth because Adams ain't playing 82. They need an nba level starting point guard, a center and competitive depth at every position. They should also call Phoenix and try to get Brooks back cause that trade is Ariza all over again
I don't know who goes, but we better get a second PG of at least NBA average quality. I don't think you can bet on VV being an iron man next year and this year, unsurprisingly, showed we really need a PG. It was management malpractice to not get a PG, even before the VV injury.
