I've been watching the Houston Rockets for 42 years. I have shaken hands with Hakeem Olajuwon and Rudy T. I have a piece of the Houston Summit Floor, and I've been a member of this forum for 23 years. None of that should get me anything, other than to let you know that I'm not just some recent, fair-weather fan. I have seen it all. And I mean ALL.

Our team is not in a good place. Stating the obvious, I know, but our deficiencies run deeper than most realize.

    Remember this?

Of course you remember. Wemby's smug attitude when Houston didn't get the chance to pick first in the 2023 draft. He didn't want to be anywhere near our organization, and we took it personally. But do you know what's worse than not getting the chance to draft him? Coming to the conclusion that he was correct. If we had drafted Wemby, would we have been able to put the right players around him, develop an effective offensive and defensive system, win 60+ games and become a legit title contender in his 3rd year? No. I don't think we would. Our organization is flawed, from the top down. And the truth of that stings worse than getting booted from the playoffs on our home court for the second year in a row.

The Houston Rockets are not a perennial doormat like the Pelicans, Wizards, etc. We give our fans just enough hope that we'll succeed. But if we as fans are truly honest with ourselves, that hope is like a vapor in the wind. We are light years behind so many other organizations, in so many facets, and I'm not sure there's an easy fix to be had. More than likely, we need: a new coach, a new GM, significant roster moves, and just for good measure, maybe even a new owner. Will any of those things happen? Hard to say. And that just makes our situation that much more depressing.

Am I overreacting to a painful loss? No. More like a painful season. I have faithfully and wholeheartedly lived and died with the Rockets for 42 years. I've experienced 2 championship seasons during that time. TWO. But I can think of so many non-title seasons that brought me hope. Excitement for the future. Great expectations.
This is NOT one of those seasons. And barring a major overhaul, I'm not quite sure when that hope will return.

I have no answers. I don't pretend to be a know-it-all GM fan. My gut says, 'Keep Amen and put everyone else on the table.', but even that is not a perfect solution. All I do know is this: Being dumped/rejected by someone is extremely painful....we've all been there. What makes you truly hit rock bottom is when you realize 'oh...it wasn't the other person who was the problem....it was actually ME.' That is where I'm at as a Houston Rockets fan. And it's a gut-wrenching place to be.

See you guys in late October.......

Imagine if Rockets drafted Wemby... will Wemby be allowed to shoot 10 threes in a game? Will the front office quickely diagnose Wemby's disease and have him DNP the entire season? Will Wemby be used as KD and Amen to play 37 minutes each game?

Whatever.... you could totally be misreading that situation and Wemby always wanted to go to SAS due to the French and international connections.

I think if we drafted Wemby, he would have gotten over it and been awesome.

I'm just glad we ended up with Amen after not getting the 1st pick in Wemby's draft. It was the best result we could've hoped for after that.

You’re overthinking it. He wanted the Spurs due to Popovich, the legacy of french players there and a French fanbase in Europe. He likely knew nothing about the Rockets.

The Rockets players aren’t good enough and that’s a fact. Sengun has proved he doesn’t the have the mental discipline needed. And both he and Thompson can’t shoot but are in the top 3 scorers and playmakers for this team. Sheppard has been overrated and inconsistent and Eason has disappointed. Pretty simple

Thank you, mang, really appreciate your statement.

Let me say this, the whole going back to 90s ball and Ime 90s Udoka was when ownership and management knew they were behind some great organizations that were after analytics.....

For what is worth, thru thick and thin, you can say all you want about Morey but he was one of the smarter dudes, perhaps not the apex but close enough to the likes of Presti, Stevens, R.C Buford.

Yeah, really think it was more about wanting to play for the Spurs

If you replace Amen with Wemby this team is instantly better. He's that kind of player.

If you have Wemby on your team, you're contending, you don't need a stacked team for that, he makes the game easier for everyone else around him.

He actually would have fit right in too since he could have played with Sengun a lot more than Amen does.

It's impossible to know who the Rockets get after getting him.
